For those who may be interested, here is the class listing for the Prowler and who we're in with.. The class is "Stock Class A". We're in some pretty good company. This class includes mass produced vehicles able to be used for normal street driving. Stock Category cars must compete in their showroom configuration with only minor modifications allowed such as aftermarket shocks, wheels, and tires. Todd, here is where they put the Viper. It is in the "Street Prepared" division. Any and all Stock Category vehicles are eligible for Street Prepared. You're also allowed to make modifications to the suspension, ignition, intake, and exhaust to further enhance the performance of the vehicle. No internal engine modifications are allowed, but minor changes to the bodywork to accommodate larger wheels and tires are permitted. Please refer to the Solo Rules for details on the allowable modifications. Butchcee, If you notice all the expense mods are listed and I put the most important one in front! Besides before I remade the banner over the weekend, we were out and up comes a car and the guy says "Whats it got in it?", my wife looked at him and said "The best looking driver in town!". So she goes up front... hehehe She's getting to be as big a smart a$$ as me! I was out to the parts store and one pulls up at light and says "You wanta race?". I said "I cant wait that long!" he looked puzzled and asked what do you mean wait? I mean for you to go home and get something fast enough to race me with!!! and drove off.... I Love this car! ------------------ |

Ok, so, how come they have some of the same cars in both divisions? What's the determining factor for which division you get tossed into? and while I'm at it.... where is the late model Vette's? Especially since their not in the same category as the Viper!? ------------------ This message has been edited by Todd Cameron on 04-17-2001 at 09:29 PM |

Todd, I can't answer your questions on the different cars but I've included the SCCA car class link. I know when we went out and raced Autocross. We raced against Porsche's, BMW's, Vipers and Corvettes and I didn't see where the difference was. The Prowlers were right behind those cars times and beat many of their times. In fact in the Shoot-Out, the Vipers/Prowlers only lost to the Porsche/BMW guys by less than 1 second... overall! http://www.scca.org/amateur/solo2/classes/index.html ------------------ |

Todd, I also found that the Viper is listed along with 5 other cars as Production cars that do not qualify for "Stock" classes.. It's at the bottome of the page of listings. ------------------ |

Todd, the problems for the Viper in an autocross is that the car is a "pig". It has massive tires, kinda on the heavy side (about 3650lbs with driver & fuel) and has wayyyy toooo much torque in the lower gearing - which is the operating range of most any vehicle in an autocross. Combine the three elements above and the result is a cone killing machine! Those who have mastered the art of driving a Viper in an autocross are good drivers indeed. (Very easy to get out of the cones with this car!!!) So losing by a second is not that bad. Light and nimble are what's needed in an autocross, not gobs of power and sticky rubber. On the other hand, put the Viper on a road course, ------------------ |
