I met with the Service Manager this morning. He was very nice and expressed his concern about someone abusing my car that way. I recieved a sense of great concern and regret if in fact one of his people did do as I stated. He was very nice as any manager would be in his position.

I havent been cooled off enough to mention what all else happend during the cars visit. I had the headlamps replaced due to condensation in them. When I picked it up they were washing it and i noticed condensation in the 2nd set of new ones.(i had them replaced once before due to the same issue.) I pointed it out to the advisor right away to be addressed when I returned for the passenger door lock/window switch to be replaced. He agreed this would be taken care of.
Here's the real kicker.....I told them of water leaks on the top and a 1/2 inch tear on the windsheild weatherstrip top and center. When I picked it up, the weatherstrip was replaced. However, it was installed improperly and VERY poorly I might ad. The weatherstips on the side of the roof metal frame were inserted with a home door/window type weatherstripping to stop the leaks in the areas where they join. I folded down the top and several pieces fell out. I removed the others that were held in by electrical tape! As if that wasnt bad enough, the tech had taken PLIERS and bent the front portion of the frame leaving PLIER MARKS on it to eliminate the leak.In addition to that, he tightened up the roof latches Soooooooo tight that you can see day light through the stiching where the frt section of cloth joins the rear glass section. You can also now see day light through the roof side weatherstrip sections. This was another issue I addressed this morning!!!! The final issue was the rear view mirror loose and after fill-up it showed only 117 miles to go to empty.Which normally says 200-210 miles. They are going to check that out also.

The manager was disgusted about the whole situation and has ordered a new top, headlamps and a couple of other items. I am very happy with the fact that things were handled as GENTELMEN and he was just as concerned over the whole thing as I was. As a manager myself, I'll give a warning on this type issue and put them on probation for 90 days where they will be watched like a hawk on anything they touch. And believe me, My time is valuable and I wont spend the time discussing it a secound time. My customers dont deserve it and I am too busy to deal with the hastle. There are others out there that can perform. My techs have been with me an average of 5 years or more. They know what I expect. I hope Walter will address this with his guy and DAMN IT if he ever does it to ME again,...........hmmmmmm!

Its not over but I feel certain it will be perfect next time.......

Don,

Glad you are dealing with a manager who is actually helping. Sorry you had to endure that tortuous repair work.

I had the same problem with my headlights, I think my dealer just silicone the clear plastic level windows on top, you can contact John Molley at the following emails and confirm this.
mrc@intergate.ca
Hope you get your dealer problem solved, these guys shouldn't be touching cars!!!

Kozican I feel your pain every time I took my corvette in for repairs they would always do something to it for example one of the tech jump in the car did not even look and punch it. The last time I had it in the tech hit my left front wheel on something. when I told the Service Manager he told me that it seem like every time they service my Vette that you say that someone has done something to it and that he feels like they should not service the Vette anymore now.To take it to another dealer.

the problem today is that a lot of these so called mechanics .....are there for the money....years ago ...the mechanics all had muscle cars or somethink different and loved the job because they had access to speed parts and tech info..
now its just a job..and they dont seem interested in the car itself....result..sloppy work and mistakes...i guess its also too costly to send them to school anymore for the updates in the dealership....its a shame...i know the feeling..

Part of the problem is these dealers don't see a lot of Prowlers. Most of them have a guy who has been to some sort of tech seminar, but then they don't see a cat for months. By the way, this dealer in Houston sounds like one to really avoid. Surely in a city that big you can find another one.

Exactly.... my dealer, while the tech is excellant... they only work on my 3 Kats... There are 4 others here in the Valley... but I know of only one having gone to see them at all. There have only been two incidences of Kats coming in to see them since 1997! They have also only had two for sale, EVER.
