Of course, my Kat picked up a nail in the right rear tire, and I go to the local Goodyear Tire Store to get it fixed.

I quiz them and watch them as they take the tire off the chrome rim, and hold my breath so as to not get any scratches on the rim.

Well, 15 minutes later the nail is removed, the plug/patch is done, and I get the bill.

Figured that quick repair would cost $25.
No.....the bill is $70.!!!

$70. for 15 minute job, and a patch on the inside of the tire. Do I hold the record???

I have asked my corvette friends, and they paid around $25. I even heard of one Prowler friend paying $50. for his repair. Curious, what others have paid for a tire repair on the Goodyear Run Flats????

Joe- That is probably the record. I use Discount Tire here in Dallas. I have picked up a couple of screws here and there and they fix them at NO CHARGE! It may be that I have all my other vehicle tire work done there. Who knows, but WOW $70 bucks OUCH!!!

Well, as the tech was patching the tire, he mentioned that he believes patches don't work and that I should just buy a new tire.

Great news to hear from the tech, who wants to be a salesman. So, I listen to the speak and find that a new rear tire from Goodyear retails at $650. I figure they charge 10% of the new tire price for a repair, cause the bill was $65 + misc.

They mentioned also, that if I want a tire warranty I could buy one.....so I listen, they tell me $228.00 for all 4 tires. I asked, what about warranty on the repaired tire, they say, all 4 or no warranty.

Well, guess I just picked the wrong local Goodyear Store.
Maybe they have a poor sales month, and decided the prowler guy could help their bottom line.

Sorry.....paid my $70. and won't go to Goodyear Store again.

Joe- If you have the Discount Tire stores down there you should try them. They are absolutely 100% customer service and only get $369 for each rear tire and you can buy a warranty(road hazard) on 1 or 4 whatever you want!

Actually, someone shoved a sheet metal screw into the Black Tie some 2 months ago. I had it fixed for $15 at the car center my dealer uses. Not sure how much my regular place would charge though as they normally charge me $10 for such a fix. Tires... car prices, anything fluctuates entirely upon dealer whim to give you a fair deal or rip you off... I'd say you got ripped and find another tire dealer fast. Call around, get replacement prices and those that are fairest with these will usually have the best prices for repair work.

I think I would print out this entire thread, after I mentioned the store by name, and then mail it to him and let him know that you know you got ripped off and now you intend to tell the rest of the world to avoid his business.

I have used Discount Tire here in Rosenberg and they told me they fix flats free at all stores. They have fixed my truck tires 3 times so far and never a charge. I did ask about the Prowler and they said it would be free also. They get my vote for buying my tires when I need them... A few more trips to the drag strip and that will be soon.

By the way, Discount Tires prices include mounting. The balance is only $9.95 per wheel.

Ed,

Now that I know no one else got burned like I did, I will take your suggestion.

Yeah....avoid Goodyear Tire Stores in Orlando, FL area.

** I only went to Goodyear figuring they had the proper tools to take care of my tire and NOT scratch my chrome rim.

Joe,

I also get free flat repairs at American Tire Company here in San Jose CA. I once had 3 flats in a row on my Saleen and they fixed all of them for free. The guy there would say "you are here again?". I did a stop on a side of a road that had nails and three of my tires cleaned up the place. Thank GOD for free tire repairs. I would have spent a fortune.

I was warned against plugs because they only enlarge a hole
which is already a bad thing and make it even bigger.

The patch that was done on my Prowler and the other three on my Saleen are holding up pretty well. I have not had any air leak issues.

Later...

Guys,
Listen up! The factory run flats come with factory road hazzard warranty. Go get your refunds. When I bought my Kat the first thing I did was to go to discount tire and buy a road hazzard. Only to find out the same day that they come with a factory one. I returned to discout to ask for my 150.00's back while they did some research to discover i was correct.
Good Luck,
Don

Kozican,

What paperwork do we have stating a road hazard warranty?
From the Goodyear booklet (comes in Owners Manual), it stated that I had 12 mos from date of service of car to get a free of charge repair.

Of course my car is in service 15 mos (5155 miles).....so I do not qualify. How long is this factory road hazard good in effect?

Appreciate your information.

I dont have any paperwork either. I remember getting on-line when I bought the car(feb 99) and asking about it. I was advised by someone in the club. They told me the Corvettes had the same tires and they had the factory RH warranty. When I told Discount Tire about the Corvettes, They said that was correct and gave me my money back. As far as I know, There isnt any paperwork???

Hopefully I will find out when I buy the TWO new rears this week.

Don

Follow-up Report:

I called the Goodyear Customer Service no. John. Good results: They will refund my $70. There is a warranty.

When I told them about the Goodyear store...they told me they had complaints about that shop before (my luck).

Thanks John!

Just wanted to say "Thank You" to everyone for their help.

As much homework, as I did not to have an unpleasant prowler tire repair experience, it happened, but with the prowler group...it turned out to be a good overall experience.

Thanks again everyone!!

Unbelievable......

Just verifies that I have dealt with a scum Goodyear Store in Orlando, FL area.

The Goodyear Hotline Rep called me to say, she got the receipt faxed from the store to her, but before she can reimburse me she must verify the tire on the prowler.....

BECAUSE....the store claims it is not the proper tire for a prowler!!!!!!!!

So, the CS Dept must have me validate what is on the car vs what the owners manual states. The saga continues....is anyone aware of different Goodyear tires being used on 1999 prowlers???

Wonder why the Goodyear store thinks it is not the proper tire for the Prowler????

Tire warranty booklet shows:

Goodyear Eagle GSD EMT tires:
P295/40R20 REAR TIRE
P225/45R17 FRONT TIRE

Does anyone show another rear tire ON their Kat??

From Goodyear CS Dept. (800-321-2136)

Tire warranty offered if:

Car in service 12 mos or less
Tire tread 75% remaining

Otherwise, no warranty, and $70. is a good labor rate to fix an EMT tire.
