I had the cat out yesterday for its first run of the year. About 10 minutes into the drive, I was stopped at an busy intersection. As I am stopped a young guy comes running out from a couple of buildings 200 or 300 feet away. He is wailing his hands and yelling. He runs full speed into the intersection and heading right for my drivers door. He swerves at the last second but slams his body into my rear fender. He bounces off and keeps running. I get out to notice my fender has 2 cracks about an inch long. I didn't know wether to scream or cry. My 6 year old son who was with me just wanted to go home he was so upset on why anyone would do this. It is very very upsetting. My only solice is as someone has said to me many times "God has probably already got him back". After settling down, I need to know the best way to get this fixed. Anyone have any experience in this most unpleasant situation. ------------------ This message has been edited by Wayne Finch on 03-19-2001 at 11:18 PM |

What a bizarre story! What do you think the guy's problem was? I know the Cat attract's attention, but that was too much!!! If no scratches, you could always try to pass it off as warranty! (sorry CJ) ------------------ This message has been edited by butchcee on 03-19-2001 at 09:42 AM |

Wayne, Ouch!!! Probably just cracked the paint. Pretty hard to crack the rear fenders. The only real solution is to have a good body shop make the repairs on the paint, otherwise the paint will eventually start to peel away from the fender as dirt, water and other contaminants get underneath the paint and start to lift it up. A good body shop should be able to repair the fender only and blend into the quarter panel. Best of luck!!! ------------------ |

What is wrong with people? Sorry for the car, I'd try to do as butchcee said. Where did that guy get turned loose from? And he just kept running? Crazy.... ------------------ 2000 Prowler Woodward Edition (red/black-USA) |

Norb, how are you. I actually dropped by TGF last Tuesday (13th) but you were off ill. Just wanted to see what you guys were up to and wondering if you are going to produce any PT Cruiser modifications - I'm toying with the idea of customising one. I was in the LA area for a few days. The crack is right through not just the paint. I still cant't believe it. ------------------ |

Wayne, you need to get it replace, take it from me, first hand. Repairs on plastic body parts don't work, replacement is the only sure way. Hope your insurance will help,, Real bummer |

Wayne, this is an auto accident, even if you didn't report it. You insurance company may require a police report but then they should cover it. You will have to pay a deductible if you have a deductible. It is the same as if you hit a deer. Furthermore, you can edit your own story before you tell the insurance company and if you were moving they surely can't deny it. I know it is not the money that is actually bothering you but why compound the aggravation by having to pay for it on top of everything else. Good luck. Can you put my fender on your claim??? |

Actually, the rear fenders crack incredibly easy (found out myself). They can re fixed using the same techniques used for fibre glass, had mine fixed fine. Takes a "hit" about 5 MPH to crack them. ------------------ |
