First let me give an overview of the situations I have encountered recently. Today, I went shopping and parked on the edge of a huge parking lot, with the closest car being at least 500 yards away. Afterwards, I returned to my car to find someone parking right next to me. No other cars within 500 yards with probably 200+ other spots available, and this person felt the need to park right next to my car. I sometimes will return to my car and find someone parked one or two spots away, and this does not bother me too much. But this bothers me because I intentionally parked the furthest away from any other cars that I could to avoid the situation. Another recent incident happened when I parked in a mall parking lot at the end of row. I returned to find someone in a truck had parked in the spot across from mine with their front bumper almost over my front bumpers. Once again, no other cars around, with many other available spaces, and this person felt the need to almost park on my hood. My question is: Has anyone else had these types of incidents happen to them? And if so, what did you do in those situations? I have surprisingly done nothing in retaliation so far, but I feel my patience wearing thin. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bill Gallagher |

Early 70's, younger and a far worse temper....I come out of an apartment complex in San Antonio Tx.... parked as you had, far from everyone...there is a car so close to mine I couldn't even get between the cars to get my door open....then I found a small ding, apparently they had a kid that was small enough to get out by hitting my car, a new 73 'Cuda....well, I lost it and opened my trunk, got out my tire jack and broke out every window in the car(Vega) and beat the hood and trunk in the process....I sometimes today have a small temper problem, but far better than 25 years ago.....then there was the time in China I kicked the side windows out of a taxi, and last year at a small car show in Knightstown In, I was helping guide a friend out of a tight parking spot in his Viper and a tourist drove over my foot in his Intrepid....I temporarily lost it and beat his car from one end to the other with my fist...never saw such big dents from a bare hand....he was apparently afraid to stop, never saw him again....I always feel if they are that stupid or careless, they get what they deserve....trying to mature in Indiana ------------------ |

I too have had the same issues with Street Rods and the Prowler. I suspect it's mainly from those that want to admire the car. Unfortunately, it's sometimes from the jealous loser that wants to pi$$ me off. BTW, I'm not parking by tangled in blue. ------------------ |

Hey, its just not parking....was at a show in 1984....had a 69 Dodge Daytona....woman comes up to my car and proceeds to use the long nose of my car to sit her purse on while she sorted thru it...the paint was hardly dry on the car and it was perfect...I politely asked her to sort out her purse somewhere else....she asked rudely "is this your old car" I said yes and helped her put her stuff back in her purse which made her mad and she started cussing me...so I just grabbed a big ring of keys she had laid on the hood and threw them as far across the highway as I could...she cussed again for a while and left...she was out there in the field looking for them when we left the show several hours later....caught a kid doing chin ups on the rear wing at a show once...ran him off easily...had a lady climb in a friends 33 Desoto cv and she let her kids use the fenders for a slide until I stopped her and her brood.....they just really didn't understand...thought the car was there for their entertainment I guess...many people truly don't understand the investment of time and money in some of these cars, those I try to educate....the ****heads, I just get even with...can't teach them anything anyway.... ------------------ |

Larry, I would have never guessed. Guess I will stand a little futher away the next time I see you. The best way to make sure no one ever parks by or touches your car is to NEVER PARK IT. Keep it on the move. I will not take my car to the Mall. Too many idiots. I had a `70 Duster and parked way out at work one night and had a guy in old buick back into my car when there were many other places to park (I looked back and seen him hit it, but didn't know who it was). Well it didn't hurt my car but I think the key in my hand might have scratched his when I went to lunch and investigated the situations. This was also about 25years ago. ------------------ |

Similar situation have happened to me. I usually get my satisfaction by turning thier side view mirrors out of adjustment. I have been thinking of carrying one of those valve stem removers around with me and letting the air out of all four tires, that is if they have done damage to my car. Rich Ware ------------------ |

This is what I see.... Mike WILL NOT take ANY of his cars unless he knows the valet guy at the place we're going, as well as getting a premo up front safe spot. If it's a new or unsafe parking area, we take my Jaguar, after all it's the only car that goes out in the rain or to unknown parking places! He will not park unless he's okay with where his car is. He just can't enjoy himself if his car is or may be under duress. It's not a problem, but it's always a consideration when we go out. I like that he treats all his lady's the same! |

I parked my Porsche on the edge of a lot with the wheels off into the dirt. Plenty of space in the lot. I came out to find a jerk parked 2 inches the passenger side of the car. They had to get out the passenger side of their car because no-way they could open their door. I calmly backed up and checked their paint hardness with my knike from front fender to rear. These were in my testerone filled days.I try not to be so reactionary any more, but sometimes get weak. These people are just jealous. Rich, a match stem in the tire valve will hold it open ------------------ AL Yellow is DCOOLEST This message has been edited by butchcee on 02-19-2001 at 11:27 AM |

About 15 years ago my friends and I were leaving a bar in the a.m. Somebody backed up and hit the front end of my buddys black T.A. while we were in the bar. White paint marks all over the black front bumper as well as a license plate of some other car. The cops came and immediately ran the plate. At 4 am they went to the home of the plate and found a very rusty white cadillac with a missing rear plate with black paint marks on its rear end. Inside the car they found the passed-out driver. I have yet to do it but will someday just for kicks, and that is to park inside one of the shopping cart ports scattered throughout parking lots. Just my luck, for the 1st time in history, somebody will actually put a shopping cart in there. ------------------ |

Al - I thought you grew up in NYC? Were not side cutters invented there, just to cut and remove half of the air valve stem? Matches? Too much work!
Glad we don't have to worry about that. ------------------

William, I discovered early that no matter how many spaces there are, they will park next to you "IF" you park in the lines. My theory is, they want to look at the car and are too LAZY to park two spots away and walk up to the Kat. So, they park next to it. Myself, I park FARRRRRRRRR away from other cars AND double park. That way, they usually will park "in the lines" one and a half spaces away. Be aware, I did have one occasion where someone "jealous" parked within inches and another where I was left a nasty note. The person couldn't spell, so I blew it off as another idiot. Hope this helps. ------------------ |

Similar problem happened to me 2 years ago at a Ferrari meeting. At that time we took the F 50, as i turn around a woman asked if she could take a picture of the car, so i said sure...no problem. I again get distracted answering questions, but then returned to see how the picture taking was going....that is when i flipped out. The lady sat on the driver side door with her foot off the ground laying on the flat part of the door. My heart just stopped since i waxed the hell out of the car and saw her on it. I calmly escorted her off the car then instructed her on how rude and inconsiderate she was and that i would preffer if she doesn't even glance over in my direction the next time. I'm still trying to figure out why she was mad at me....like it is her right to do as she wishes to anyone's car? I don't know if people actually go to the museums and actually pick up the artwork and manipulate it? So people should be euthanized on sight when they do such things. The other stories are very similar to the dents i got at school. A guy opened his door and decided that it was better for him to get it his car with the door wide open, so he swung it open, but my car was in the way. He kept the door "resting " on my front left fender well, but he got in and out a few times. I can tell, because the missing paint was in gauges, left a nice 1/2 inch scar. And since the car is black, it was very noticeable. I got it fixed a week or so later, but cost $200 to fix. What jealous idiots in this world. ------------------ 2000 Prowler Woodward Edition (red/black-USA) |

I recently took the Black Tie out for a Sunday ride. I parled across the street from a fav biker hangout in Lake Elizabeth. Some idiot girl ( I think she did, as I SAW her) made a point to take off on her bike and side swiped the front bumpers, taking a nice gouge out of the right one bumper with her brake pedal, bending that nicely, and scratched them both with her boot leg, and then took off. I had to have the local Sheriff chase her down, and then she denied hitting it. The Sheriff would not even take a report! I had to go see the local CHP later to get one made. I am fairly certain she did this on purpose and ment to kick the car but got too close. Even odder, I stopped at the Oaks on the way back, all the bikers pretended I did not exist! But they could not take their eyes off the car when I drove up and left. Really strange... they have not a clue who I am or what I do or how many Harley's I have owned. ------------------ |

Bill, as you have stated I have parked about 90 miles from everyone in the lot and sure as hell someone just "has" to park ear you also. My wife and I took the at to our Lake place and went into town for some shopping and I put it out at the edge of the lot. Came out and there was 11 pickup trucks loaded with "good ole boys" and their girl friends just sitting there staring... They didn't go close but that comes with the owning of the world's best looking car... Prowler - Lord of the Looks! I now still park like you do but I always take a angle and take up two spots... ------------------ |
