I tried some clear plastic covering from Trim Brite products. The stuff appears and smells like vinyl and will conform to compound curves. When it is on, there is a SLIGHT dulling of the finish. The best part is that it can be peeled off if you dont like it and it doesn't leave a glue residue. It says it has to cure for 24 hours, don't know how it will peel after that. I might try this on my rocker panels and rear fenders. I didn't get the 3m stuff because my friends at the body shop gave me this to try-they had it and never used it. The roll from Trim Bright is 5 7/8 by 12 foot. I dont know the cost, but should be under $20. Thickness is 11 thou. The guy at the shop showed me a small piece he put over a stone hole in his wife's headlight glass-still there and well attached after 2 1/2 years. (Betcha he would have replaced the lite if it was his car!) Hope this helps any do-it-yourselfers that might want to venture into this area.

Midlife-Trimbrite # is T9020. I may have been wrong about the Trimbrite price as the similar trim sheets I found in the store were foil colored, and I could not find the clear. The stuff I was trying was given to me with no tag on it-But I DOUBT it was $90 a roll.
My stuff was 5 7/8-was the 3-M the same width? And again, this stuff smelled like vinyl-wonder what the 3M was? I havn't used it for rocker panel protection yet and will probably wait until next year to install as the cat will go into hibernation soon and I'll want warm weather before installing. For the price , the 3M might be a better product-non-yellowing, superior flexibility, adhesion-etc. For my use, the TrimBrite was
adequate.
