I don't think twice about it. I would never take two stalls to park my Prowler. Well, maybe if the lot was empty or there obviously wasn't a need for other people to be parking around me. To me it just seems wrong. My wife thinks I'm crazy, hell it took me about a year to fix the "Handicap stall" problem she had when we first met. Let's take a vote and see how many people WILL and WON'T park in 2 stalls.

I'm not a guy...... When I drive my cat and have to park in a situation where parking spaces are limited, I won't take up two, but I will park the furthest away from where I think anyone else will park. I don't mind walking. I am not one of those people that has to park as close as I can get. However, if I am at a big shopping mall with unlimited parking, I will take 2 spaces, but again, I will park waaaaay out on the fringe of the lot and walk as far as I have to. I do not find people to be courteous and careful around cars. I was at an outlet mall once and had parked my brand new Dodge Ram Indy truck in a single space because it was extremely busy. I had gotten back into my truck, waiting for my husband to catch up and this car with several women pulled in and parked next to me. The lady on the passenger side opened her door to get out and just flung the door open with no concern and slammed it into my door. I was sitting right there with the window open and she could have cared less. She was standing right next to my open window and I asked her what the heck she thought she was doing. I told her it was a brand new vehicle and I didn't appreciate her slamming her door into it. She just gave me a dirty look and said, "What's your problem?" People do not respect other people's property and I, frankly, don't trust them. I have actually left places that I didn't think it was safe to park my cat and found somewhere else to take it. Sorry, it took me long enough to get my cat, I won't let anyone else destroy it. I will say that I am extremely careful around other people's cars, because of the way I feel about it. I do not find that to be the case with most people. I see people putting door dings and actually hitting other cars and not care in the least. I would never, however, park in a handicap spot. |

I don't take two stalls, I just park way out where no one else is parked. On a couple of occassions this has not worked because I return to find someone has parked right next to me anyway. Go figure. |

Know what you mean, Rich. Have done that also. Had parked out in the center of a big parking lot with no one around for quite a ways. Came out of the store and found another car parked right next to my black cat........it was a purple cat! [This message has been edited by CJ (edited 09-15-2000).] |

I almost always take two stalls. I park in the back of busy lots or sometimes on the grass if availible. The only time I feel safe to park side by side is with other Prowler owners. Cause we all respect each others property. Just my 2 cents! |

I rarely if ever park my car in a parking lot. I just drive it. When I do park it in a lot I try to take two spaces because I think i) people understand the rarity of the car and most don't care about a Prowler taking two spots and ii) most people understand that cars gets dinged up at parking lots and iii) I don't want to get my car dented or scratched because it will be something I have to live with or get fixed because of someone else's carelessness. I have no interest in having Dr. Ru's initials, which can only be reproduced exactly by Dr. Ru, marred. Lastly, at the local ice cream parlor on a Saturday night, there are a lot of people who WANT to gravitate and look at the car. They're glad to have the space to look at the car if I can get it. I have had similar experiences to CJ's above posting. Not gonna let it happen to my Prowler.

NYLE, YOU ARE RIGHT ON THE $ BOUT PARKING, AND BOY HAS OUR RESTURANT BILL GONE DONE IN RECENT MONTHS. PARKING IN THE "OUTBACK" IS A GREAT WAY TO START BUT THE PROWLER CREATES AN ISLAND OF CARS IN A SEA OF OPEN SPACES. IF YOU CAN PARK PERFECTLY SIDEWAYS SOMETIMES I CAN GET 3 SPACES, THOUGH IT CAN BE DIFFICULT GETTING OUT SOMETIMES. SOON I WILL TRY PARKING IN ONE OF THOSE COVERED SHOPPING CART PORTS..NOBODY PUTS CARTS IN THERE ANYWAY! |

I see the census is split! I try to just take one spot, but choose the spot carefully. With the front bumper off, nose to tail parking worries me, so I to try to park where I can see the car. Ashamedly I must admit that people that have dinged my car in the past have paid for their mistakes. While this doesn't remedy the situation, it gives me some instant gratification which of course fades on the way to the body shop! |

Same here. Almost always waaaay out there across 2 spaces, or somewhere that I can watch the cat sleeping. I have had to park in a single up close a few times and came out one time with of course a nick in the drivers side front panel, I almost cried. My wife was soooooo embarassed cause I was like a little baby throwing a temper tantrum and cussing the SOB that had the nerve to do that. I hate that most people just don't have any respect for such a rare car muchless someone elses property. Well, that's my 2 cents. PaulR |

I've never take up 2 stalls for fear of my Kat getting keyed by some jealous SOB. This happened to my Vette and I had to get the entire car painted for it to match and I was only in 1 stall. Now, does anyone parallel park their kats? What's the trick in not getting the front fenders scraped up? PS. Best wishes to Nyle on your 40th!! |

Midlife-I find that as always experience prevails! At first I was 2 feet away-down to about a foot! Curb feelers!! LOL [This message has been edited by butchcee (edited 09-15-2000).] [This message has been edited by butchcee (edited 09-15-2000).] |

LOL! I think I've always been a "out in the boonies" parker. Our Ford Explorer is over 2 years old and it doesn't have a ding on it yet. I always choose my stalls wisely, usually only parking next to a curb so I can hug it, next to a handicap stall, or I look for those freak "king" stalls where it looks like the line painter came to work a wee bit on the drunk side. I would always much rather park safely and walk a distance then be right up in the front. But of course, should I luck out and see a GOOD stall in the front, I'm game. I totally agree about people not having respect for other people's property. Hell, I just had my rear plates stolen off the Cat a week ago |

CJ, I'm glad to know that someone of the opposite gender is as passionate about the Prowler as we males are. Would you be so kind to share a few words of advice to my wife about driving a kat, she's so paranoid about crashing the front end that she's missing out on all the fun. Thanks! Don |

Midlife - Have been around cars and hot rods all my married life (33 yrs.). I was taught respect for cars. I've learned enough about them to work on them, been taught how to use mechanic's tools (I have my own toolbox), was taught how to clean them (I'm verrrrrrrrry picky) and learned to love them (especially the cat). Have driven a lot of different cars over my lifetime, but I admit that driving the cat for the first time was a real experience. It took some getting used to. I am only 5' tall, so it is difficult for me to see the front end of the car, the back end, or the back wheels (yes, Gary, I had to raise my seat as much as possible). You have to get a feel for the car's dimensions and where you need to point it so you are in the center of a lane. You can't judge where you are by the front wheels, as they are not in alignment with the back. I judge by the back wheels. With regard to parking and the front nose, I always try to park in a spot that does not have those cement markers. If I have no choice, I stop shorter than where I think it should be. Again, you just have to visualize and get a feel for where the car is. If I get out of the car and find that I am not comfortable with how far up or back in a spot I am, I will just get back in it and repark it. When I first got the cat, I actually took it out to an empty parking lot on a Sunday and practiced, practiced, practiced and practiced parking it. I practiced pulling in forward and backing it into a space (you know how they are at those cruise nights - they always want you to back in!). As for parallel parking - I never parallel park - not even my other cars (not unless there are extra spots that I can actually just pull in!). Okay, if that sounds wimpy to all you guys, so be it. But from what I have seen, most guys aren't any better at parking a cat than I am!! My best advice to your wife is to drive it and keep practicing. If you never drive it, you won't learn to get that feel for it. Trust me, it doesn't take that long! If you don't, you'll be missing out on a heck of a lot of fun!! My husband gave me this car as an anniversary present. He does not drive it....he says its my car and I should be driving it. (He works for DC and gets to drive about anything he wants, so it's not an issue for him!) That's okay with me......he'd have a hard time wrestling it away from me anyway. And as Gary C. will tell you.....I may be small..but I'm tough! |

Now what was the topic? OH Parking It has taken some time but yes I can back the car in straight. I don't take the car the the store or places I would feel uncomfortable about leaving it. On the Friday night cruise-in's we have to use ONE spot because limited space but most the time I double park at the far end of the lot as most other Prowler owners. I do respect other peoples car and when I get out and it is tight, I place my hand on the edge of my door if I'm afraid it will hit the car next to me. That way IF it does hit the car it is my hand not the door that touch's it. CJ IS RIGHT PRATICE IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET COMFORTABLE IN THE CAT and what else could be that much fun to practice Being in Indiana we have lots of room to park in most places. So most places there is room to park out and double park. I WOULD NOT EXPECT ANYONE TO RESPECT THE CAR DUE TO RARITY I think because of the RARITY it is more of a target for the jealous My 2 cents: time to go to cruise in ------------------ |

I park out in North forty, where most people today are too lazy to walk that far. Take up two or three stalls even out that far. Had my Dakota keyed for taking a extra two feet one nite. $900 lesson = people don't give a crap! |
