Went to put my K&N air filter in this morn, but stopped until I heard from a few of you here. I do not want to take the car's side panel off, so I crawled under after driving up on a curb. Had plenty of clearance to reach the filter box, undid the two clamps/clasps on the front (nose) side of the box, but couldn't get the box open. Also, the clearance to move the part of the box with the duct that goes to the engine is blocked by some (assumed A/C) pipe between the box and the engine. AND, the other half of the box (I believe with the air inlet, although I couldn't see it)is "set" in this aluminum holder attached to the frame (it looks like the two drain holes for the filter box sit in this holder).

Is there another clamp on the top of the box or the back (rearend) side in addition to the two that are visible?
Which side of the box moves - the one with the duct to the engine, or the bigger part with the air inlet that sits in that holder
thingy.

Help, my car wants to breathe better and I can't help it yet.

Any other air filter secrets???

Oh yea, when is the next Houston Prowler get together?
best rgrds - Brian

It's alot easier removing the side panel (only three bolts on top). That gives you complete access to the filter box. I undid the clamps and slid the old filter out the bottom of the car and slid the new one in the same way. Pretty easy once you see how to do it. Took me 2o minutes to figure that out.

Brian,

You didn't say what year car. I will tell you the early `99's had problem with getting the cover off the air box. They changed the AC lines to give the room to remove the cover.

If your was built before april of `98 I would suspect this to be the problem.

On label on drivers door is MDH this stands for month date hour, another location on same label has month and year. Hope this helps.

I have a 2K black and it was not easy. But, here is how i did it:

Jack the car up much easier.
Pop the clamps, push in on the back of the filter box to release the "hooks".
Open it up and replace the filter, put back together in the same order.

I found no reason to pull the panel off it was easy enough (yeh right).

Hope this helps

I took the old settup off-and replaced it with the MAC settup in about a half an hour-Didnt jack the car up. Would seem real hard without side panel removal. Hey dont be afraid to remove the thing-no big deal-3 bolts and lift it up! One thing I would consider is new and better quality non-mar washers as the old ones chew up easily! Dont forget to put the marker light back in-as I did! Any one have any feedback as to whether they left out the foam spacer out when putting the panel back? I took mine out.

Butchee, I also put the MAC in. Left out the foam spacer, just no need for it anymore.
