I got the NAVIDAD virus in my computer yesterday and it probably was forwarded to anyone that I have sent email to, or received email from. It changes the name with every new transmission. Don't open it, obviously. It will completely stop you from connecting to anything. It is resending itself to me. I have recvd. about 50 so far. I know this is off topic but if I stops one prowler fanatic from having the problem, it will be worth it. Sorry if it was forwarded to you from me. |

Thanks for the heads up warning Ed. Do you remember what the name of the file was that you opened? Was it a picture? Were you running Virus Scanning software when you got infected with it? ------------------ |

Info on the Navidad virus can be found here.. http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=98881& It would be a good idea to read up about it to avoid getting infected. ------------------ |

Mike, one of my sons is always passing on jokes and it had his name on it and a couple of my neices so I thought it was safe. It was "Dumb blonde jokes" "Fla. recount", "this is funny" "Dumb brunette jokes", etc. etc. They are almost a chain letter but it puts a new name on it when it is passed on. My kids, nephews all had it. I had about 10 entries at first but wound up with over 50, I would think. I will probably get more if any of them open it up by mistake. It looks legit, a real fooler. |

Pretty Park is a fairly old virus so probably every virus protection software is geared to handle it. If anyone would like a recommendation, I'd suggest Norton's AntiVirus 2001. If you look at Best Buy, they carry 2 versions of it. One is boxed with a book. The other version is just in a shrink-wrapped simple disk cover that is exactly 1/2 the price of the boxed version...same software, same protection. And the program's great. ------------------ |

I caught something Friday or Monday that took my personal office computer out until late today... lost no data but EVERY program and device drivers were attacked. I am at home now and do not remember the virus name, but the virus software caught it, after the fact! I need to catch up on my reading regarding this matter for sure. I do remember getting some dumb blonde jokes as well as lots and lots of Florida recounts stuff, being that I am a Palm Beach County, Florida resident. I guess one of these got me too. I should be fully restored tomorrow. If anyone has suggestions or comments regarding this matter, please respond. THANKS, Jay ------------------ |
