What a great weekend! A special "thank you" to Carol & Fred and CJ & Bob
for all they did to make this weekend the fantastic success that it was.
A special "I've Died and Gone to Heaven" thank you to Harold Sulluivan, too.
From driving out to Indy and meeting Larry & Sue, David & Kevin (you Da Man!
way to go Kevin -uh, "Surprise"!!! LOL) the infamous GaryC & Nita, Larry Lord
Dave & Nancy, Nyle, and every one else (too many names to mention you all),
it was a great weekend! Thanks to all who participated and made this one of
the best weekend trips I can remember. CAAP, the Ford Museum, The Sullivan
Collection, WOODWARD (!) and most of all, everyone who came - this will be
one tough weekend to top... Looks to me like the POA has had a rip-roaring
kickoff to a fantastic future. It only gets better from here, folks!

Start planning for Woodward 2001 now - it will be something to look forward to.
For those of you who missed Woodward 2000, make plans for the third weekend of
August 2001. For those of us who were there, I hope to see everyone there
again next year. (Carol & CJ - call me if need any help along the way)

Thanks again to everyone who made this weekend what it was - a great time!

Hey Killer,
Maybe I need to feed you a few more hats.
During the Woodward Cruise I surrendered my permanently disfigured (thanks to you, your excellent stalking tactics and killer instincts) "Manly Man's Hat" to the Make a Difference Charity for a fund raising auction.
The now famous hat was auctioned off to Warren Kolar for the bargain basement price of $60.00.
After paying his hard earned money to the Make a Difference Charity, Warren then handed the hat back to me as he stated that he felt like he just could not stand to take such a trophy from a legend such as myself.

Warren, I thank you for your generosity in your gift to the charity and also my bald spot.

Now for the best news,
Dr. Ru signed and striped the hat while at our banquet.
I will continue to add signatures of many of the best in the automobile world to the hat and I will again put the hat up for auction at next years Woodward Dream Cruise. Next year I hope to make much more money for the Make a Difference Charity with the addition of the many new signatures that will be on it. Start planning now to attend and to bid. Please let me know whose signatures you would like and I will work very hard to get them for you.

Sounds like an awwwwsome time ... guess you were the culprit? Question: at 90mph, did you "stop the train" to retrieve said hat?

Train did not stop, but hat owner (L.Lord) found a crossover, went south ten miles before he found another crossover to come back north to fetch it! Rest of us stopped at rest area and waited 30 min. for him to catch up - we all thought he was burying the damn hat! The Calif. crew needs to do a Long Beach Charity Cruise to raise money for him to buy a new hat. Did I do it? I must still take the 5th on this one! LOL

After an hours long discussion about the possibility of long term disfigurement and the risks of surgery,,,against my better judgement, Julie and I have decided to consent to reconstructive surgery and now have it planned for later this week. The largest and most risky problem in the short term future is the cranial section reattachment. If surgery goes well there will be many hours of dermabrasion required to repair the tragic scarring (in the pattern of a 17" Goodyear EMT) that remains in the left forehead area. Even if everything goes well I'm sure that there will be many, many psychological problems that will need to be dealt with.
Larry Mayes, thank you for your heartfelt sympathy and your offer to donate your 2 cents. At the present time the family is asking that any donations be held until we are assured of the outcome of this matter.

I have already been contacted by 2 lawyers that are willing to dedicate themselves to this very important case on only a contingency basis. I have been told that the lawsuit for the damage, surgery and recovery time should settle somewhere in the low to mid seven figure area and that after the lawyers take their fees I may even (depending on the fee amounts) possibly have enough money to purchase another hat.

Thank you to all who have offered their help in our time of grief.

I would like to remind everyone to please hold no grudges against the perpetrator of this dastardly crime and to from this time forward, treat Larry (The Hat Killer) Salzman AKA "Phx Suncat" just as you would any PPC member. In The Hat Killer's own words,,,"I saw it on the road. I swerved to the right. I swerved to left. And then I again swerved to the right before I finally hit it"

Larry: I've been counting the minutes waiting for your post-it was WORTH the wait!I knew that header would draw you right in, and I have spent my time readying my defense team. Have retained famous Calif. lawyer Johnny Cochran and "Boston" Barry Scheck to defend me in this brutual battle. Johnny has told me: "If the hat doesn't fit, do not commit!" I know that rag of a hat with PAW prints across it, will not fit me. I will stand my ground on this matter, and may take it up before the PPC tribual for settlement. In your defense, the So. Cal. crew is going to have a charity run thru the streets of Long Beach to raise money for a new hat, but they are not going to invite you for some reason? I may have to rearrange my busy schedule to attend this function, and count the proceeds! The Az. crew has been looking at second hand thrift stores looking for a replacement, but no luck as yet! The price of other people's junk keeps going up. We are on a mission over here for a replacement! Keep us posted, Larry "loose lug nuts" Salzman AKA PHX SUNCAT

"Rag of a hat" How dare you insult such a pristene example of manhood in this manner!
Johnny Cochran and Boston Barry don't frighten me. Although I must admit that I'm now having a little trouble with my prosecution team. Mark Furman had volunteered to help with the investigation but has now withdrawn since he found out that the hat was black. Said he doesn't EVEN want to go there again.

Larry: A motion to dismiss has been filed by my defense team after interviewing three SPEEDVISION TV crew members who are quoted as saying: "We saw the female passenger in the yellow cat reach behind the driver's head and flip the hat off his head out into traffic." Also, several Lady Prowlers came forward who attended the Cottonwood lunch. They overheard Julie say: "I'm finally rid of that hat! He even falls asleep on the couch with it on!" The TRUTH is now out. I have recieved several e-mails regarding the future status of your hat. Best suggestions: #1-shipping hat to Nowell and placing in the PPC archives. #2-attaching it 23 inches below the tail on your trailing poll. Go with #1, as Julie might be upset with #2. My intent was not to insult your hat by calling it a rag, which it is now. It was really KOOL in its previous lifeform. End of matter, Larry"looking for vindication" Salzman

Even as we speak,,,the subject hat is undergoing reconstructive surgery. I've been informed that most of the stitches will be just under the headband/scalpline of the wounded remnants of what was once a proud and beautiful hat. The surgeon has told me that pictures will be taken after the operation is completed and we will be given a full count of the number of stitches required to close the gaping wound that was caused by your reckless exhibition of speed. Bandages are going to be required for about 10 days but I have been informed that the hat may possibly be able to travel with me to the Otis Chandler Museum on June 17, 2000. I have spoken with the subject hat and it is very much looking forward to visiting with the many, many PPC members that have sent e-mails, cards, flowers and letters wishing good health. Also if all goes well at the Museum,,the subject hat will be allowed to participate in the Fathers Day Cruise to Los Alamos for our visit to the original Wally's Service Station where Goober worked during the Andy Griffith Show. Personally, I feel that this is the hat's only reason for living at this time.
As gruesome as it sounds,,,I have been told that there were pictures taken at the scene and I feel that it would be in the best interests of eveyone concerned to have the pictures posted on the PPC site so that others will be able to see what happens when a vehicle is operated in an unsafe manner at a high rate of speed.

As with any tragic accident that is caused by inattention and recklessness,,there will be no winner in this situation. I truly hope that you will seek professional to rid yourself of what I'm sure is the constant regret and sorrow that you must feel after this horrific event.

After several hours of protest, I have caved in to the advice of my lawyers to settle this matter with a plea bargain agreement. The punishment handed down by the PPC tribunal is brutual: I must drive in the next two (2) Prowler road events with my cruise control engaged at the posted speed limit of any city, county, state, or federal roadway, and not surpass that speed limit! Thanks Lord, I will have many sleepless nights over this ruling, and this means I will be the LAST cat in line and many miles behind during these road events. The BUTT end, the CABOOSE, the LOSER, are the images I'm now having. Also, I'm now fearful to meet new Prowler owners, as they will "racially profile" me as the silver cat-HAT KILLER!. If you are involved in any of these two events, I will carry a large, fish dip net to reach out and snag any hats, sunglasses, pop cans, etc. that surely will eject from the yellow 99 CRUZR you pilot. Atleast you WILL have to wait 30 minutes for me at the rest areas! I am scared much worse than your hat from this ACCIDENT, which was caused by you not obeying the PPC bylaw number 117C: " All Prowler owners and passengers will tightly secure down all hats and loose clothing at speeds over 80mph." I'm considering filing a civil suit for my pain and suffering from this ordeal. Will also notify Nowell of your PPC violations, and request that YOU be put on six months probation for your reckless, irresponsible driving habits. THE END

Excuse me?
If I recall correctly,,, the reason that you were behind me stalking my hat in the first place is because I was losing sight of the 10 Prowlers in front of us. Could it be that you were only baiting me to pass you so that you could grab and maim my completely innocent manly mans hat? It seems to me that the punishment is way to light but if that's what the Prowler God has decided, who am I to dispute the decision. As for you carrying a large fish dip net,,I'm all for that! Maybe you will be busy enough hanging onto it that you will not have the time to prepare your attack on someone elses hat. I worry that Sondra will be forced to help you in your quest as I'm sure that you will not be happy until you bag another hat or two in your net for your collection. She seemed so innocent but now I wonder if possibly she was part of your dastardly plot. I did notice how she was grinning when I put my "convertible" hat back on my head.

Loosing site of the other cats? I think not!At 105mph, I was loosing site of you and the red cat from New Mexico. I remembered your previous mention of a "slight overheating problem" and decided to LET you pass me, so that I could be of help if your cat had a "hot flash". *****ALMOST***** Two local Prowler owners found a exact match to your hat at a carport sale in Tempe (their names NOW witheld by request). Upon examination, I noticed that the hat was infected with head lice! I thought NO, I can't mail this to him--but it did bring a smile to my face just thinking about it. We are still looking! Newsflash! Last I heard, Larry "The Mad Hatter" Lord is quite possibly going to be recognized by the State of Arizona for his committment to highway beautification by going to such great lengths (10 miles to be exact) to keep their highways free from that which would otherwise degrade them. I also heard that if he choses to resurrect such haberdashery, he will be tracked down by Arizona's finest and cited for littering instead! The hat is dead. Long live the hat!

Hey Killer,
What no comment this time?
Too busy plotting your next attack?

Gary C. will be traveling South on I-17 while wearing a copy of the once perfect hat late tonight. I've already warned him of your night vision goggles and your many threats regarding any hats brought into Arizona.
