Hi all I'm new here and considering the purchase of a prowler. Over many years I've had a number of Mopars dtarting with a 1951 Plymouth Business Coupe that I built into an E-Gas drag car up to the present 73 528 Hemi Cuda Resto-Mod car. I have always liked the Prowler and now may be the time for me to get one. Anyway in searching for a Prowler I came across this car in the town that I live in: https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/plymouth/prowler/2191613.html What is key here is that it is S/N 00005 with 4949 miles. It is owned by a Chrysler Executive but I have no idea who it is. The (negotiable) asking price is $40k which is really high I think compared to the asking price on another very low miles car. Of course other cars are not S/N 00005. Does anyone know anything about this car? Steve This message has been edited by slkret123 on 01-11-2019 at 08:35 PM |

Welcome to the POA. If you are planning on driving the car and modifying it I would look for a cheaper car. |

If anyone knows the owner it would be Bob or Cj. They might post after seeing this. It looks like a great Prowler, but if your looking to make money off of selling it later, I think it will be a ways down the road, especially at that price. Good luck. |

I agree with Dale (padroo), it depends on what you plan to do with the car. Especially since this is a 97. If you want a Prowler for the experience of driving one, you may want to consider a newer model year. Many improvements were made after that first year, most importantly the engine. I have had many great experiences with my Prowler which I would have missed if I had let it sit in my garage as a museum piece. Own one to drive one, to meet new friends, and watch the kids go nuts when you drive by... |

I guess, the more I look at this, the more I think you guys are right. It will probably take a while for the low serial number to be a resale advantage. Also the point about improvements in later models is well taken. On to what I suspect is a sensitive topic. What is a reasonable selling price for a well cared for un-modified 2000 model year car with say 10k miles (yellow if it matters)? The only data I can see is the ebay "sold" listings where it seems like the cars go for low to mid 20's. Occasionally more and occasionally less. Asking prices seem to be upper 20's to mid 30's. Sometimes a whole lot more. A couple of years ago I tried to get actual selling prices for a Lamborghini that I had to convince my insurance carrier of it's value. Got nothing but wildly varying opinions from on-line sources. I finally found a sales "facilitator" who had actual selling prices which he shared with my insurance company and that fixed my problem. A little help here would be greatly appreciated. Steve |

Steve, I have a yellow 2000 which I purchased for $35,000 in October 2016, but it only had 370 miles. Mine now has almost 10K miles, and my insurance considers it to be worth around $28,000. I honestly don't know how much the color affects value, but yellow was my first choice as well and is popular. The two-tone Woodward and Black Tie editions command a premium due to their limited production. If you find one that is unmodified, as mine was, you will still need to invest in improvements such as new tires and likely fixes to front and rear stabilizers, belts, and hoses, whose rubber parts will have deteriorated with age. The 2000 model is a good choice as it also had improvements with the suspension, a chrome shift bezel, and a digital display in the rearview mirror which can cycle through various info such as outside temperature and a compass. It also was the last full model year branded as Plymouth, if that matters to you. If you find a 2001, it could be branded as either Plymouth or Chrysler. Good luck with your search! David I saw your ad when I first came to this site. While I like the looks of the hard top and I have interest in a trailer, I've already got 4 cars in a 3 car garage and a prowler makes 5. So another 4 post lift fixes that but trying to figure out how to store a top and trailer along with the 5 cars is a bit of an issue for me. I wish you good luck with your sale...looks like a nice car. On the subject of trailers, does anyone know what a trailer weighs?? Steve |

Actually the 97s might be worth more in the long run. First year. Limited number built. Engine that won't fry the valves if the timing belt breaks. It doesn't have as many gadgets, for sure but does have things the later years did not have. Finished edge on the soft top, for one. Hood rod instead of the lifts. Pros and cons for everything. It says the price is negotiable. I am sure the price is higher because it is with Hemmings, also. OR, buy David's and sell the hardtop and trailer and now you have a much more reasonable price. |

There is a bracket that bolts onto the axel of the trailer. (It is somewhat permeant) . Until you remove it. The long angel bars slip into the bracket and a wing nut tightens and holds it into place. They are easily removed when taking the trail out for use. Then replaced when standing back up for storage. Some people have even hooked up a wench system to pull the trailer up into storage position. borrowed pic from Larry L This message has been edited by robin on 01-14-2019 at 10:55 AM |
