number is 4865320aa http://parts.moparonlineparts.com/chrysler/prowler/4865320aa/2001-year/base-trim/3-5l-v6-gas-engine/front-suspension-cat/suspension-components-scat/?part_name=upper-control-arm The correct torque for the upper joint is 65 Lbs. The 95 they list is actually NM's. 65 lbs.= 95 Nm's. It's incorrect in the service manual as well. This message has been edited by robin on 03-30-2017 at 11:08 AM |

From the pictures I saw, It looks like that car was in a wreck. Take a look at the LEFT side inner wheel barrel and you will also see where the ball joint came down and hit the rim. I would take that car into a good body shop & have all the welds on the front frame & the complete front end checked. I have never seen a Prowler A arm bent like that. I personally would not drive that car until it is inspected, that A Arm could also have some cracks where the bends are and could separate. As not to confuse anyone, I have pictures of the damage This message has been edited by phil2237 on 04-06-2017 at 01:06 PM |

phil2237 - Thanks for looking into the photos. The inner wheel barrel on the left rim was done a few weeks ago by the dealership when they installed new tires on my car. I wasn't too happy about the marks they left but never took it back. I did however put the car up on my lift and looked over EVERY possible weld on the frame and I cannot find any cracks, separation, or damage any where on the car except for the lower chin has some scuff marks. I'm not sure how the control arm got this hump in it. I'm on the fence about replacing it, but if you think over time there might be a chance it would break maybe I will replace it. |

I would not even hesitate to change that arm. That arm may have cracks from the bend. The only way I can imagine the arm being bent like that is the car was hit or slide hard into a curb from the right side. That damage was NOT done from a front impact as the arm is bent upwards. Just make sure all the welds on the frame look good and that none of the brackets on the frame are bent. Replace the upper arm, Which I believe Gary has one if needed & bottom ball joints, You can get just the bottom ball joints from SOME dealers without having to buy the lower arm with them. Gary can possibly help you get a set of ball joints, you might want to ask him. then align the front end. You should be good to go. It didn't look like any tire wear at all which is good. The rest of the front end looked good from the photos. As far as that left rim, I personally would take it back to the dealer & let them hunt down a new rim for you at THEIR cost. How did they gouge the barrel of the rim like that is beyond me. Is it possible that arm damage could have been done by the dealer is another question I would ask also. The only reason I am stating about possible damage done by the dealer is, with that arm bent like that. The right front tire would be worn on the inside tread if you have been driving the car for a while with that bent arm as the camber & caster have to be way out of spec's. Just for curiosity, see if the left bottom ball joint is new. When a ball joint fails, that is what it looks like on the rim. If it is new, you may want to have a serious talk with the dealer. One of our local dealers here let a lot boy drive my neighbors Prowler and hit a curb with it and tried to blame the owner of the car a few years back. You just never know.
