Interesting you bring this up now. Later this month the plant I work at will be laying off about 1/2 of the work force that remains and slated to close in 1 year. Doubt it will go much past that. It will be 3 years after the original closing date. Ford will be shutting down several plants here in the US. this is really more the asia concept. They went to Just In Time (JIT), it worked well in Japan where everything is relitively close. It doesn't work well here and management does not understand how to control it. They set up a schedule and don't think they can change it, IF IT DOESN'T WORK YOU HAVE TO ADJUST, the japanese companies do. To put the suppliers under one roof is a way to have some control with JIT. The uniforms, another asia concept, I like this idea, the president/plant manager of the company comes in every day and looks like everyone else. They are no better than the rest. One common cafeteria, you still have your normal groups, but it sometimes works as they claim. This plant is interesting, but all the safe gaurds and robots, they cannot buy these vehicles being built. Once we have no one making product, who will buy the product? The lawyers make more per car than the labor to build them. ------------------ |

those out of the country plants, have no unions.it all comes down to one simple thing, more money/ profit at our expense in jobs.the first co.who wanted to make products over seas/import was arrow shirts.arrow had to get government approval to do that,it was granted, and here we are now.screw the us government. ------------------ |

I wasn't promoting the concept and I certainly don't understand all that goes into it. I was shocked by the technology being used. Everyone wants union wages but shops at Wal-Mart. I don't understand why we don't put huge import taxes on everything we buy from overseas to balance out the equation. We ship our food to the entire world to help them out but they literally bite the hand that feeds them. I am sure the value of the dollar, Euro, etc also plays a huge role in it all. Again, I wasn't taking a stance for it or against it, just posting it for everyone's consumption. |

no offence taken ed,this country is going downhill fast, and am glad i wont be around in 40 to 60 yrs to see it.and im not saying unions are good by any means,i belonged to one for 12 yrs and in those 12 yrs they did nothing to help us or improve anything.every 3 yrs when a new contract came up,we lost money.the union- iamaw-used to be the second largest in this country, nothing but a bunch of idiots. ------------------ This message has been edited by catfish on 11-03-2010 at 12:00 AM |

I agree with Ed. Why doesn't US have a high import tax on everything coming in just like all the other country's have on our stuff. |
