It looks more and more like I may be forced to sell the Kat. We relocated to Ft. Worth and my wife's income has not picked up yet, and she is pregnant. The first sonogram is next week and if all is well, I think I need to sell the Kat. I totaled it up and if I sell the Kat and trade in my truck for a better mileage car I could save about $800 per month. It's just too much money, and unless I can put a third seat in the prowler for the baby, I'm out of luck. My question is this...Should I try to repair the nose scrapes before the sale? Also I ran over a retread a while back and never repaired the side panel. It is VERY minor, and noone but me has ever noticed it. I'll post pics a bit later so you can see. Also since my Kat is one of a kind (007/163) think it is worth more?

Scott,
I would probably sell the car as is. You might not make up the difference if you were to fix it, and then try and sell.

Pharmkat, some people have done an awesome advertising job and then gotten top dollar for their prowlers on Ebay. I'm thinking of that Candy that sold 2 weeks ago for 45K. You might copy some of that ad, and play up the black tie and 007 number to see what you can get. I'd think yours is worth more due to the black tie limited edition factor. I agree about not fixing items though. Think that's better in your pocket.

Scott, First and MOST IMPORTANT. CONGRATULATIONS on the baby on the way. WOW. There is nothing more exciting than having a child, until the grandkids come along.

My suggestion is to sell as is. You have a very unique Prowler and it should bring more money than most other Kats. BT's are the best looking and FASTEST!!! It would be very difficult for me to part with my Prowler, but, it is "just stuff". Nothing is more important than the wellbeing and health of your family. You have been fortunate to have the Prowler while young. I had to wait until the kids are out of college and married to get mine. You can always get another one "One of these days".
If the engine panel is an issue for the buyer, let me know and I'll trade with you. I'm replacing mine in a few days, and the original ones will just be stored until I die.
When the withdrawals start, call me and you can borrow mine.
Again, congratulations on the baby on the way.

Congrats first of all, but I would look into having someone look into the possible simple clean up of the bruises you spoke of, could be a simple 2000 grit sand paper job(with lubeing surfaced with slightly soapy water)which will buff out by hand with the proper compound. If you never colour sanded before this might not be the time to learn, but it is an easy job for a skilled person. Good luck with sale and new baby.

Limited anything carries little weight these days. Everything is a limited model of something. Ford's Explorer and Expedition even have Limited models which they make in the 10's of 1,000's yearly. Most dealers didn't know that vehicle was limited and none knew where the number was. On eBay, EVERY prowler is touted as limited, regardless of color.

I had a black-tie (even lower number then yours) and although the money was decent back then, the last yellow one I had went for alot more (and how many yellows are there?). Alot has to do with color choices.

Another factor is how fast you want to sell it. Quickly and high dollar usually don't sit well together. If you have a high dollar amount set and don't want to budge from it, you may have to wait a year or two to get it.

Best of Luck....

Unless the nose scrapes are worse than those you normally find on a Prowler, I would not fix them. How bad is the damage from the retread?

It seems to me that prices on low mileage (under 10,000 miles) Prowlers have been up from last year.

Congratulations on the baby!

I would not split hairs over the minor problems on the car. If someone is in the market for a Black Tie they will overlook the problems. When I bought my red Prowler I would have overlooked minor problems to get a Woodward. I could't find one for sale so I bought the red one.

Don't be sad about selling the car. You can always buy another one later.

I would fix all the minor problems. This way it is one less thing a prospective buyer will have to discuss with you. If you ask top dollar for an item it must be in tip top shape.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'll let you know what happens next week and when it goes up for sale. On another note, after rereading my original post I wanted to clarify something. In no way am I not thrilled and excited about having a baby. It will be our first after 9 years of college and marriage, and I couldn't be happier. I can always get another car later.

First of all...congratulations!!!

Too bad you have to sell your kat but you are right...you can always pick up another later on.

Can you repair your nose yourself? How bad is it? Please post pics.

I personally would repair it myself. Not everyone out there is a motorhead and feels like immediately tackling a repair as soon as they buy a car.

Don't forget to detail the heck out of your kat!

Good luck on your sale.

Brian
