After having bought a 2001 Porwler new last year in June I had some unfortunate quality issues on my car.

Here's an overview:
- head lamp relais broken
- factory paint error on pinstripe on trunk lid (they offered to repaint lid, but I'm afraid it'll be worse than now)
- hood struts too weak (they replaced them with new ones, but after that the hood was misaligned and the paint got scratched off of the driver's door when opening it. Took them forever to repaint because they had to mix pin stripe color themselves)
- plastic guides for front roof pins broken (replaced)
- very loud squeak noise when opning driver's side door (repaired)
- soft top leaked water on driver's side window (they had the car three times to fix this. Now it's extremely hard to close to upper latches, BOTH sides leak and they scratched the hood while working on the seals)
- paint chips off of roof fastening latches (they want to repaint it)
- serpentine belt came off (car had to be towed and it took 2 weeks to repair itdue to belt tensioner being broken)
- alternator broken (car had to be towed again, took one week to repair)
- trip computer in mirror shuts off once in a while (can't repair it because it worked every time they checked it)
- tach is illuminated very unevenly (no repair available)
- both door speakers and the subwoofer are broken (haven't turned it in for this yet)

Last weekend I checked the engine and saw the serpentine belt to be off 50% again!

I found the alternator pulley not to be in line with the other pulleys.
Also I found they misassembled the seals along the A-pillar and the door glass is misalligned, causing the seals to be oversqueezed and ultimately leaking.

Last year in about October, the car stayed at the dealership 20% of the time I owned it and more than 15% of the total miles on it was just from driving to and from the dealership! Every time I turn the car in with 2 issues I get it back with 3 problems!
On top of that they get the car nice and clean and when I get it back it's a huge mess inside and out!
Window regulators and chrome pitting still to come on mine...

How about your Prowlers? Do you have similar problems?

I'll try a new dealership now that's farther away, but I'm at a point that I wonder what a new car guarantee on a Chrysler vehicle is actually worth.
So far nothing for my car...

Sorry for sounding depressed, but I expected more from a car at this price range. Not to talk about the dealership...

Do you have a Mulholland by chance? There's a signature in the pinstripe that's often mistaken for a defect.

Find a new dealership, also make a formal complaint in writing to Chrysler about the dealership. This is inexcusable, especially for a car in the price range. Not all dealerships are this pathetic.

The belt should not climb off of the pulley that way. No doubt that something is way out of alignment! Sorry you are having grief!

Mike,
I used to bring it to the Tuscaloosa dealership. Where's Benchmark?

I have a Mulholland edition. I'll post a picture later of what is either a signature or a bad pin stripe.

Last year I already wrote a formal letter of complaint to the central Chrysler customer address they post on their site. I have never heard from them, no reply at all. Friends of mine had trouble with their Voyager and they, too, did not get any response!
Since then many more issues occured, I just did not turn the car in again.
One issue I forgot:
They dripped some type of aggressive fluid onto my rear bumper, it "melted" two holes into the plastic!

Exactly. I sometimes regret buying this car. I wouldn't mind all the things that break on it if there were actually competent service people to be able to fix those things, but also not break anything else in the process.

I can only image what you are going thru,It sure sounds as tho you are dealing with a BAD dealership.Have you spoke with the dealership owner yet?You must relize he can only fix what he knows about and with this many problems he should get invoulded.I can honestly say I have onld had to take mine in for service(lube-oil-filter-etc)ball joint recall and at same time hood struts.I do not believe you are having normal problems.

Sorry to hear of the problems with your cat. I have two and have not had the issues you are dealing with. As stated, not all dealerships had an actual Prowler tech. In addition, due to turnover, some dealerships may have had one at one time but they have moved on.

Since you got no response to your letter, call the DaimlerChrysler Customer Center and lodge a formal complaint. Their number is 800.992.1997.

Welcome to POA and I hope you get all your issues resolved.

I guess one of the above mentioned issues resolved itself:
After looking very closely and activating all my fantasy I can imagine now that the paint issue on the pin stripe on the trunk is saying "Dr Ru".
I didn't even know about this (thanks to the POA I do now).

But to my defense, it's really not easy to read!
It was probably the very first car on a Monday morning after a rough nite that he had to sign...

They offered to repaint over Dr Ru's signataure? That's a flag raiser to get out of there. They should have known what it was. Good luck to you. Jeff

SirReal is right ... leave and don't look back and ask to see the credentials of their Prowler/Viper Tech ... if they won't let you meet him, then he isn't one would be my guess!

Don't just leave...RUN!!! It's the same way here in Ct. CJ and Bob helped me get a good deal on my Ram, but now I think that every darn light on the dash would have to be on, and the truck sputtering , which it may start doing any minute, before I brought it back to that dealership. Same kind of stories as yours but even worse.

I've had at least as many problems as you, if not more. My car was in the shop at least 2 months the first 2 years I had it, but I've now had the car 3 years and everything has sorta worked itself out. I bought the car brand new and shouldn't of experienced any of the problems, but it's in the past and I'm finally able to enjoy the car so I'm trying to be positive. Hopefully someone will finally get everything worked out so you can start enjoying the car.

All the above mentioned issues happened in a little more than one year with only 4900 miles on the car now.
On February 20, 2005, I did the math:
50 days at the dealership (19% of the time I owned it) and more than 220 miles driven just to and from the dealership (more than 7% of total milage of the car at that time).
I also wrote a letter of complaint to the Chrysler customer service last September. No reply at all. It wasn't worth the paper.

I, too, hope I get to the point that I can enjoy the car more.
Maybe every part that fails should be replaced with an aftermarket mod until the car works well???
