So now that I have my Precious back in my possession I went on a short cruise (300 miles) through the Sesepe here in southern cali. In the Cuyama valley it seemed like the bugs were out practicing military formations! So now I'm the victim of some bug splatter.

I was wondering if anyone had insight into the following:

1) Where on your kat gets splattered the most? On mine the splatter seemed concentrated on the front bumpers, bottom of the nose, the black pastic pieces on the front of the rear fenders (are they plastic on purpose?), and the windshield. Very little on the hood (perhasp due to the angle?). There was some on the front edges of the front fenders (very little) and a little on the grille. Sidenote: I have a TGF grille and am wondering if the little ones got through and are now peppering my battery with splatters

2) Do you use anything special to clean the splatters off? For now I wiped off the front bumpers with a wet soft cloth before I threw the cover on my special girl and put her to bed

3) How many kats frequent the 33 north of Ojai, bugs notwithstanding?

(before the bugs, the dirt tracks provide evidence of the amazing turning radius of a kat)

I put a good layer of 303 vinyl protectant on the bumpers...the bugs just wipe right off.

I live in Florida, and we get the dreaded love bugs down here twice a year for about 6 weeks each time. They are a real pain to get off the car, and if you don't get them off they'll eat into the paint finish. I bought some stuff at a local cruise in here called Bug Blaster. After I get home from "prowling" around, I spray the bugs with this stuff, let it sit for a few seconds, and then they wipe right off. It's the best stuff that I've found so far.

I seem to get the most bug bodies splattered on the bumpers (another reason to keep them on - that way there are less on the car body), a few on the nose and the side mirrors. I try to make sure I clean them off asap so they don't get baked on. I use the Meguiar's Detailer to take them off.

I live in south Florida and I only get the love bugs when I go inland (15 miles), but majority of my time is spent within 10 miles of the coast. During love bug season I try not to drive inland.

I get a majority of my bugs on the bumpers and windshield. I use to get a lot on the radiator but I bought one of those screens that fits in front of the radiator and I can easly clean it.

If you have a bra for the kat use Pledge on it...

I leave the Bra on all the time and the only place bugs get on the paint is the side mirrors and the front of the front fenders...

For cars especially love bugs, WD40 works very effectively to remove the splattered bugs from painted areas... In the case of love bugs get them off your paint as soon as possible. We keep a bucket with soapy water in the garage to clean trucks & cars around the house each night during those seasons... And, any hard to remove we use the WD40...

You can also wax your windshield. this helps water runoff (like rainx) and makes cleaning splattered bugs a little easier...

Same as CJ. I carry Mequiers Quik Detail in the car and wipe them right off before they harden. Also Mequiers Vinyl Protectorant on the bumpers and rear fender shield seems to keep them from sticking. Makes for an easy wipe off. Rainex (or wax) on the windshield helps too.
