I'm having the ball-joint recall done tomorrow, and was scheduled to have the front shocks replaced as they are leaking. My service manager just called to inform me that the shocks aren't in and currently are on National Back Order. The service manager indicated that there are 88 sets of front shocks on back order... He also indicated that this is usual indicates that a change in vendor is being made. Can anyone "in the know" validate this ? many thanks Joe |

Same situation with chrome wheels. I was told this means some type of change or quality control issue. |

I was told the same thing about the front shocks. My dealer informed me that I got the last 2 back shocks! I hope they are OK or is Chrysler working on that also? |

I had mine last month for same shock replacement One came in and the other has been on back order. My tech indicated the one he has is not Koni.. Not sure what it is being replaced with. That is all I know. Were yours Koni? |

I believe mine are Koni. They are what came from the factory on the 2001. Based on blubyu's response, seems like the back shocks are on backorder as well.... |

It's no wonder at the rate the shocks are being replaced. I hope they have a new vendor for the wheels when I work on getting mine replaced. |

Found mine leaking yesterday - the Dealer says that just because they are leaking does not mean they are bad..... I will call to have them replaced soon. I realize a few people have had shock problems but is it an epidemic? Anyone with a 99 or 97 have problems? |

My 1997 cat with 23k miles has no problems with the shocks. |

If enough owners contact NHTSA about the shocks, this could become the next recall. (my front shocks replaced twice in 10k miles). I sure don't want to have to buy a set of these after warranty expires. |

I was told on may 12th that the replacement shocks were on backorder then, with an expected availability of mid- June. |

Well, I was told a over a month ago that the new shocks would be available at the end of May and shipped to the main DC depot for distribution the first week of June. Well we are in the second week of June and still seem to be getting the run around ! When is DC going to get an accurate delivery date from the manufacturer. You would think with as many owners with the same problem that they would put the push to get it resolved ASAP to prevent any further issues resulting from shock failure. How about customer loyalty, satisfaction and what ever ? Just my opinion and very discussed long time customer of CHRYSLER. |

Here's the part that gets me...It's 2003. You would have thought that they would have figured out how to make a shock absorber properly by now!!! |

quote: The all say this and tout it in commercials ("quality is job one") but, in the end, these things get assembled by the bean counters. As an example, look at something like leather seats. In a new car with factory leather, you can wear out a section getting in and out of the car over time. Why? because they use such a thin (almost veneer) piece of leather. Why? to save a buck or two. Replace that section with a piece done by your local upolstery shop, and it lasts darn near forever. Why? it's alot thicker. Car manufacturers are always looking to cut corners to save a buck or two. Why do you think most concept cars get so watered down before becoming the final product???? Why do think so many parts of the prowler come from other models? Because they really wanted the look of the Grand Cherokee steering wheel in a hotrod????? Minivan air controls always look cool in hotrods????? No, because if they made everything specific to this car, they would have had to charge $75K+ to make as much profit. This message has been edited by YellowFever on 06-11-2003 at 07:35 AM |

My 99 has 24,000 plus miles and no leaking shocks. I'm not sure however I do not believe that 2000 and later model Prowlers have Koni's. This is when they changed the suspension for a softer ride. |

They changed the Koni shocks to Dynamic Suspension shocks in mid 2000 if I am not mistaken. Time for a 3rd vendor? |

THE SHOCKS ARE AVAILABLE! I took my car in for the recall yesterday and while it was there UPS showed up with the front shocks. Get on your dealers and tell them to get them in. It's the summer driving season and these things should have been available long ago! |
