AAAAUUUGGGHHH!!!!!! I've got this nagging rattle in my dashboard. It SOUNDS like maybe a wiring harness might have come loose and is knocking around somewhere behind the steering wheel. Does anyone have any suggestings for opening up the dashboard? Does the colored cover just pop off?

I would prefer not to spend a couple hours twisting around on my back (unless I'm installing Jay's new muffler). $75,000 worth of fused vertebrae two months ago and I'm no longer quite the contortionist I used to be.

Thanks....

Paul,
To remove the dash, push down on the top of it while pulling outward with it. It simply pops in and out. I usually grab around the gauges once I have it pulled out far enough to get a grip on it. You may also want to lower your steering wheel to have more room. If you still have trouble getting the dash out, let me know and I can meet up with you sometime this week to show you how. I now live in Waterford Lakes, so I am right down the street from you.

I have the same rattle in the Candy Red. Sounds like it is right behind the and above the steering column.

Please post what it is if you find it.

Well, I got the top of the dash off pretty easily (thanks in part to William's post, and in part to the service manual which show where the clips are). Still no idea where the rattle's coming from, but it's louder.

Plans are to have a friend use a stethoscope while I'm driving and see if we can hone in on it. I'll let y'all know!

My 2 cents...Many sounds that seem to come from the dash are usually in the front compartment of the car. For example...my wifes new T Bird haes a terrible dash rattle above 70 MPH...put my hands all over it and found nothing. It turned out to be the outside lower window strip of the windshield...There was an area that wasn't glued down and the wind caused a loud noise....I would have sworn it was the dash.

I've had a similar rattle in the same spot since the day I bought my kat. But mine sounds more like a screw rolling around. I unfortunately have not been able to get my dash off. Even with the instructional help from William.

The kat is coming out of hibernation the first of next month, and since it's new I'll have the dealer find, and fix it.
