DO NOT PASS GO!!! DO NOT COLLECT $200!! In fact, Pay $200 or go directly to Jail!!! It appears that the police have devised a method to make up for any local revenue shortfalls. They are ACTIVELY patrolling Woodward and handing out tickets left and right!!! Virtually every police car we passed on Friday night, had cars pulled over, lights flashing and were writing tickets!! Some had two and three cars pulled over at once. Word to the wise........drive cautiously and obey ALL the rules and regulations. Check out the Dream Cruise Rules!! http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000246.html This message has been edited by CJ on 08-12-2001 at 10:30 AM |

Well I don't think much of the Woodward welcome. I don't know of much that can make you feel more unwelcome than getting a ticket. If they don't want car enthusiasts to come and have fun they should outlaw the whole Woodward thing. I could see pulling over some rowdies and giving a warning, but to ticket two or three at a time sounds like: "It appears that the police have devised a method to make up for any local revenue shortfalls.", as CJ says. Nothing ruins my day, week, or month like getting a ticket. I remember the place and never come back. So after saying that, Prowl on guys and gals. Have a great time. Watch out JD, you seem to be a magnet for those cops. ------------------ |

Jim, sorry, I should have made that more clear...we were joking about the revenue thing! However, we do understand why they have the rules. When you have the 10's of thousands of cars on the street and 1.6 million people walking around, standing and sitting on the curbs... you can't risk anyone getting hurt! Everyone knows the rules up front, so if someone decides to drag race or do a burn out that could get out of control, then it's sort of like asking for a ticket. There are so many cars out, there isn't much room between them for any fooling around! The three cars (Pro Street Camaros) that got pulled over were drag racing (literally) down Woodward. Even I don't think that should be going on! Too much potential for a dangerous situation. If they don't set a precedence for safety, it could get out of hand. I don't need someone getting stupid and out of control and hitting me in my cat!!!! Besides, it's the Woodward Dream Cruise, not the Woodward Dream Drag Race! ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! Not me Jim,,,,,,, It's Peņa He has everyone fooled. Wait and see. As far as the police, at Hot August Nights they mostly direct traffic to keep everyone moving. But they get the obvious offenders. I read in the paper this past month they petitioned for and won triple their salary during their time on duty of the event. The put up with a lot. ------------------ |

well... I can certainly see giving a drag ticket... but too often in these situations, cops find any reason to pull you over and "see your papers" meanwhile finding anthing to write you up over... and that latter attitude by the cops insures I'll never attend that given event their were doing "such" at. ------------------ |

I really don't think the towns that put these events on truly want to generate revenue from tickets, or generate a bad reputation from being too strict. Thirty thousand hot rods in one place calls for some kind of control. If it was that bad they wouldn't show up. Come out and see, gonna be fun. ------------------ |

I have been to Woodward 2 other times. You see EVERYTHING being driven on the street. They overlook alot, alcohol burning, open headers with slicks cruising Woodward, but I did see a few get pulled over for doing something STUPID and a few that should have but didn't. It is still a week away from the BIG DAY. They have to let the early guy's know they cannot race on the street and get away with it. Just as in the `50's & `60's if you got caught racing you either went to jail or got a ticket. LET US ALL HAVE A GREAT SAFE TIME CRUISING WOODWARD THIS COMING WEEK ------------------ |
