I was always skeptical on putting mud flaps on a Prowler. Who the hell would do that? After the seeing them on Todds car and on Garys car, I realize they look OK, they dont detract from the car at all. I ordered the mud flaps from Chrysler two weeks ago, and installed them last week. Before, I could barely get the car down the road before I had the typical splatter all over the sides of the car and the ear bumpers. It has been a week, and I drove the car to LA and back twice since, in between rainy days, and the car still looks good, and no more splatter! So, if you don't have these yet...go down to Chrysler and order a set! Thansk for listening................ ------------------ |

I agree Rich. Flaps are a must. Check mud flaps in the search to see whether to trim or not. Be careful if you dont trim or you'll do fender damage. It's not necessary if you know how the damage occurs ------------------ |

Make sure you use Locktite on the nuts, Rich. They do work loose and you can't buy just the hardware separate. ------------------ |

Believe me, I am being VERY careful. But I probably just jinxed myself, maybe I should go ahead and order a pair of fenders tomorrow. |

A little care goes a LONG way, and well worth protecting the Kat against mud and guts from the road! Mine stay full length. ------------------ |

To Todd and really to Rich too ... a little care does go a long way, but all it takes is a slight "ooops" and you just messed up a very expensive part (like which parts aren't on these cars, huh) that could have been avoided by giving those inexpensive flaps a slight "trim". The difference in protection and cleanliness is ever so slight when you trim the flaps by an inch, or at most as inch-and-a-half, and you will have peace of mind that a fender won't be ruined in the driving process. Rich ... if you can affor to have two spare fenders on hand ... "just in case of a mishap", could you please send some money my way ... my daughter's (11 mos.) college fund is in need of donations! Happy 'safe' Prowling, all ! ------------------ |

My vote, don't trim. Be careful. |

I'm not going to trim them. I like them the way they are now. I really dont have any obstacles to worry about in my area. Really just speed bumps, and a few dips. But, Like I said, I probably just jinxed myself. --Rich-- |

CoolRich, Your cat would make a cool banner. Send me some picks of your front, side and rear and whatever other angles you think look cool on your cat. Send me also a good face shot of you and I will build you a banner if you like? Later... ------------------ |

Rich, I have full flaps, untrimmed and have ruined a fender. As soon as the replacement arrives I will put on another untrimmed flap. Biggest danger is in backing up and out of a pot hole..flap is pinched between side of hole and tire as you back up and fender gets sucked under. Feel resistance?...stop and find another way out. When you hear all the crap that rattles around inside the flaps while driving, be glad that stuff is not strafing the side of your car! ------------------ |

Well I just got my second Prowler. I have a solution to the danger of bending up the front fender. I have been watching this problem for three years. Here is my solution. I didn't shorten my mud flaps. I want all the protection I can get from rocks. What I did is make a cut above each screw hole on the flaps. I used a utility knife and made a slice starting from about one eighth of an inch from each hole. I cut it straight up to almost the end of the flap. Three slices on each flap for the three holes. The idea is if it ever gets pulled on it will just rip out of the fender, not rip the fender itself. I screwed it on firmly, but not extremely tight. Be sure to use lock tite so the screw won't work loose in the future. I mentioned it at the last tech session, and most of the people were going to do it to theirs. The worst thing that can happen now, if I back up over a curb is loose the whole mud flap. Much better than the fender. ------------------ |

Jim - with that idea in mind, I just might buy the front flaps. Thanks Do I owe you a prime rib dinner, or a BK broiler? ------------------

Larry - as much as I like prime rib, Id have to say we are even. You helped me with my good deal I got on my Orange Prowler. I am only happy to help you, and any others that might heed my warning about the mud flaps. This is what the whole Discussion Forum is all about, helping other Prowler owners. ------------------ |
