Why are there so many cars with such few miles on them? There is another 13 on eBay with less than 10,000 miles. I am interested in opinions. I have a couple of my own theories and just interested in how they compare with others.

Breaks down as follows

99 Purple 2,496 192 miles per year avg
99 Purple 2,353 181 miles per year avg
00 Black 1,327 110.58 miles per year avg
99 Purple 939 72.23 miles per year avg
01 Mulh 932 84.72 miles per year avg
00 Silver 26 2.16 miles per year avg

I know of 2 owners who never take their cars out of the garage. As a result, they are very low mileage. I would call them garage queens but I see that as a somewhat derogatory term. We know how enjoyable it is, just to stand and look at a prowler and this is a legitimate form of ownership IMO. Eventually, priorities can change and a new use for the money comes up. Like a loss of employment or a new baby or whatever and the car goes on the block.

I know people often say "drive the car and enjoy" but just simple ownership can be fulfilling. I try to find a balance of the 2.

I would think the early ones were purchased as an "investment" and now they realize the investment will have to be very long term and they are possibly strapped for cash or want to try a different "investment"
Just a guess.

My guess would be that some were purchased with expectations of the values rising rapidly and a huge profit could be made when resold. Of course, we know that didn't happen.

With the uncertainty of our economy some may have decided to "bite the bullet" and sell now. And perhaps some simply have no other choice.

Several years ago a local builder/developer told me that she and her husband had a '97 in storage (with only a couple hundred miles on it) that they had bought new. She said they had paid $70K for it.

About a year ago they went broke and lost everything they owned (including the practically unused Prowler).
