As you know, the OEM fuel pumps are not readily available. They had to find a new vendor for them after the bailout. They recently made somewhere between 1 and 3 fuel pumps (depending on who you talk to). I just got one and will have it installed probably next week and will update this in time as to how the guinnea pig pump holds up. You should know that when you would buy the OEM pump in the past, they would include the o-ring with it. They do not include the o-ring with the new pumps. You have to get them separate. (Parts and service both told me that this was incompetant of them to do make a new pump and not provide the o-ring with it.) The o-ring used to be round (in the cross section), but there were problems with them leaking so they made new o-rings square. They told me today that the o-rings have a new number. The old part number was 4695227. The new part number is 4581239. They told me several times that the new part number o-ring was round in the cross section. This made no sense to me. Chrysler contacted the engineers on this o-ring to find out if it was round or square and they said it was round. They are square. The new pumps have the same part number as the old pumps (4886424AA) and list for $564. The new part number o-ring lists for $13.80. Wish me luck! |

I just changed Marc Scarberry's to a Square tank top gasket Monday Night and he will have the part number if he will chime in and put it out... His old one is leaking(round type)... I have put the Walbro SRT 4 pump in 1997's and 1999, 2000's Prowlers, and like always I do it for free and like always the Prowler People take care of me and pay shipping both ways and through in some cash... Thank you Prowler People... The Walbro Pump and extra gasket kit includes all gaskets and I always streach the tank top gasket just a little to keep from it working it's way off on the install.. Walbro pump $125.00 to my door and then you install it in the factory housing.. I have done 7 of these to date and have had no complaints...I have a pictured post on how to do it... The fuel pump change that is... John#onecatnodog) |

4581239 is the correct part# for the rectangle, square gasket.i have purchased several pumps in the past and the square gasket,or any gasket never came with the pump,it was always a seperate part.fyi.to keep gasket in place when installing a pump, use a small amt.of weatherstrip glue on gasket.press in place, remove for about 5 min.till glue sets up and reinstall gasket.the gasket now will stay put and not move or leak.when threading on nut.it should start and by hand tighten up.if it binds while tightening ,the nut is crooked.remove and start again.the last thing you want to happen is to strip the tank threads.if you do,buy a new tank, cause it will leak. ------------------ |

I don't know what to tell you, Jan. The o-ring was included with the 2nd and 3rd pumps I got for my 97. I know that for a fact as I opened the boxes myself and took pics of the contents. (The first was the factory pump.) |
