My gearbox dosent want to go into gear 4. Ive just spent money on a full service and they flushed out the gearbox. However when they ran the diagnostics...it read that gear 4 had a problem. Does this mean i need a new gearbox?? I cant go into Gear 4 both manually or by auto. How much does a gearbox reconditioned/ new Also it has started to make a knocking sound like the Diff is bad!! They may not have replaced all the tranny fluid. Withnthis transmission, they need to have it shift through all the gears in order to fill the unit with the proper amount of fluid. |

First question when I read your post...did you have the service done because it would NOT go into 4th gear, or did this problem occur AFTER the service was completed. If it is after the service I would agree with Marty that the trans was improperly refilled |

it was after the service had been completed. I actually went in for an engine service and they said i might have a problem with the gearbox since it was slipping. They said they were going to flush out all the grease. ALSO IT HAS STARTED TO MAKE A KNOCKING SOUND. LIKE THE DIFF IS BAD!!! |

Ridin, get it back to the dealer, I presume Chrysler, they might have goofed and there is no differential per say, it is a trans axle unit. requires special tranny fluid which the dealer should know and Marty is right on the filling procedure. Just spent $226 on the tranny service, flush and filter then refill with Mopar fluid and test drive (?). Think 21 miles was enough and there were only 11 quartermile timing tickets on the seat. Good luck and let us know. |

Marc Scarbeary encountered a similar problem with an authorized Chrysler dealer a number of years ago. The car went less than a 100 miles before it destroyed the transaxle. Cause? Failure to properly refill the transaxle. The car must be run on a lift with the rear wheels off the ground allowing the transmission to shift through the gears a couple of times while topping off the fluid level after each cycle. Also the dealer needs to use ATF+4. There is an area for differential axle lube not connected with the internal transmission fluid. Another question, how did they determine that the transmission was slipping? |

i have now tried every thing regarding the gearbox. we put it on a ramp and did everthing possible but i just cant get gear 3 and 4. It always sticks on gear 2 whether on auto or manual transmission. The worse thing is that it stays on gear 2 and refuses to budge, so i cant really go more than 30mph. Anymore ideas?? The worse thing is that the mechanics after examining the gearbox say the Gearbox is actually fine!!!??? This message has been edited by Ridin Dirty on 07-05-2006 at 08:04 PM |

Input/Output sensors anyone? Could that cause this symptom? |

MD, I also think it's worth replacing the sensors. If anything it would rule them out. If they don't solve it, you haven't spent alot (about $18 each). |

Just in case you have difficulties getting the sensors, I have a new set available that you can have for costs + shipping. Bad news is I'm currently on business travel in Asia Pacific until end of next week before I can ship it to you. Let me know. Or perhaps some of the other guys can help you out. Best regards, Kees ------------------ |

Low battery voltage can cause the tranny to lock into 2nd gear only/limp home mode as well. However unlikely..it's one more (albeit slight) possiblility to consider? |
