Ain't technology grand? I was at our local Saturday at Sam's parking lot car show last night and had lots of admirers looking over my car. Some a little closer than others. One guy even noticed my latest test mod to my passenger rear tire. He saw the small protrusion in the tread of my tire and rather profoundly asked, "What's this? You're air sensor?" I gleefully replied, "It's a screw. I picked it up about a week ago. The air sensor light hasn't come on, so it's a slow leak, so I'm not taking it out." I guess since it is a round head phillips screw and was sticking out about 1/8" it maybe looked like some kind of a button, but come ON folks... an air sensor? I bet he felt like a fool after that... LOL. Which brings me to my new mod... I want to plug the tire. Never done that before. It's on the high part of the outermost tread. Can it be plugged on the car or is it a wheel off job? Where is the best plug kit to get, and what do I look for? Any hints on how to do the job? |

I have plugged Prowler tires at least 8-10 times. As long as it is on the tread and not the sidewall you should be fine. You said the screw is in the high part of the tread so it may not even casue a puncture. YOu can pick upa plug kit at any auto parts store, Wal-Mart, etc. Be near an air pump or have a plug in compressor handy also! |

Mickey, If it is not a puncture now, it will be as it gets pushed in as you drive on it. Make sure you park it so that you have a good angle to work on it. Get a kit for less than $ 10 at any auto store. Pull out, or unscrew the culprit. Rasp it with the file furnished, use plenty of glue to lubricate it, stick the plug in and then trim the excess with a razor knife. Should take a couple of minutes unless you have a problem getting thru a steel belt. |

I have found that we can even patch the side walls on run-flat tires because they are so hard. They (THEY?) say not to but we have had no problems and do it all the time. |
