Hey All, I was pulled over in my Acura-CL today @ LAX for not having a front plate (none of the cars in the family has one!). Luckily was just a warning. Usually, I get a ticket if parking on public streets with no plates in front, and I'll just suck it up. There must be a way to get out of a ticket for the Prowler..no? Any tots? Thanks! ------------------ |

Here in Missouri we are a two plate state as well. I have never had any Missouri front plate on any car we have owned. On the few occasions we have been stopped for something it has never come up. I have a Harley plate on the front of my Harley truck and Kansas State University tags on the other vehicles. Maybe having something on the front of your Acura might be better than having nothing. Just curious what the prior tickets cost you.

I have never been pulled over in my kat for not having a front plate. If you don't have the plate bracket screwed to the front bumper than you might be able to talk your way out of it by telling them that you wouldn't know where to put one. Another idea I have heard is to keep the front plate in the car and throw it up on the dashboard if needed. While is this is not a proper display, together with the excuse above, might give you some leniency. L.A. is really cracking down on the front plate issue. I even put mine on my truck - the first time I have ever had a front plate on one of my vehicles since I started driving. There are a couple of good ideas online here for retractable plates - they fold up under the front bumper and you can't tell they are there. I will see if I can do a search to find some of the posts. ------------------ |

Was $35 for the front license ticket..it was a 'fix-it' ticket though. A friend of mine just got the Elise and he's also figuring out how to deal with this issue. thanks for the fold down tip. They have that for the Miatas too! |

We live up near SF, and we used a non-permanent front license bracket for the 1st 6 months until it broke and damaged the grille. While we still had it, it constantly ticked me off seeing just how many cars out there didn't have a front plate. A CPJE dealer service manager had told me that there was an exception in the vehicle code if your car was made without a way to mount a front plate. I called the CHP and they told me no dice - you have to have both plates, no matter the car. Less than a month after the bracket broke, I got pulled over for not having the front plate. I told the officer that I had the front plate with me, but there's no place to mount a front plate, etc. His response was, in effect, too bad, you have to figure out a way to do it - and then he gave me a ticket. I threw the broken bracket on just long enough to fix the ticket and pay $10, but the full-price ticket was over $100. I just try to stay away from the CHP now. I am considering the Real Rod bracket though...it's pretty unobtrusive, and since our car is a daily driver, it gets lots of public exposure. Oh, I'm also carrying around a web site printout from a Bay Area county sheriff's office that owns a Prowler without a front plate on it. Not sure if that will work, but here's the link if you're interested. http://www.cocosheriff.org/patrol/acs/crime_prevention/talking_police_cars.htm |

Unfortunately, even if you showed the cop the pic of Captian D.A.V.E, he would most likely tell you that Cops can only get away with something like that... |

Melissa - they will probably tell you that that kat is a show car and not used on public highways and therefore doesn't need a front plate.
(besides... I like mine better )
