YES!! I THINK I've found it..after seven different exhaust set ups..the Holly Grail of Exhaust Sound.

I needed to get converters on to get my emission sticker this Month. So I broke down and bought Dean's converter set that goes with my Bellanger headers (they are pricey but they are top drawer).

I was pleasantly surprised with the deep sound at idle AND at high rev's. I have to say this current set up: Headers, High flow Cats, 12" glass pack (mostly burnt out) stock tail pipes/tips with no baffles...is the best sound ever.

Yes, I MAY have lost a tad of snap..but the sound is just what I've been looking for. I'm sure I'll be happy with this...until I change it again

Chromer, guess this means you won't need to borrow my Frankenstien Y pipe then? Only been on the car twice for a total of an hour and a half, course it is pretty ugly. I definitely noticed a lack of power with it on but it's nowhere near as clean flowing as Dean's. Glad ya like the sound.

Marc,

Thanks for offering up the "FrankenCats" anyway. Think I will leave this set up on for awhile?? I'm not planning on selling but a cat set up would be needed on the car before it could be sold anyway. Also, I didn't want to get caught without if Bellanger decided to discountinue that piece of art in the future...

Yes..the motors do run clean enough to pass federal emissions...but in Colorado you have to pass the visual inspection for converter(s) in place too.

Very cool Chromer...how much do the headers alone contribute to the sounds. vs. stock?

Black Tie,

The headers definitely "thumped it out", hard to describe but..deeper? I have to say that adding the High Flow cata set up helped the sound. I determined that the no-cats Y-Pipe that comes with the headers (at least on my car) acted like a tunning fork/buzz at high revs. The car "just sounds better" all around with the headers wutg tge cats combonation.

Thanks Chromer...

I hate when frequencies hit that resonation level where all you get is a buzzing...I like my Borla but it gets a bit buzzy at times, and is on the verge of being too tame, though I like it far better than the stock setup.

Is there truly any downside to removing the cats????

I guess I was lucky. I liked the straight pipes and that was my first attempt.
