This is kind of funny now, but at the time NOT. Anyway I was working on the 30 Pontiac. About 10 feet away the Prowler is parked. A rattling sound was coming from the prowler. Turned around to see what the noise was. A little amount of smoke was rolling out from both sides of the car. Opened the hood and a lot of smoke came belching up. Looked like the mushroom cloud from a small A-Bomb blast. I mean a lot of smoke. Ran around the shop trying to find some bolt cutters to cut the battery cable. No luck, now the shop is full of smoke. Ran outside to get a water hose and a man in a orange vest is walking down the property line. I ask him for help. Seems the city was doing a smoke test on the sewer system to find leaks, Sure enough the drain in the floor was right under the engine compartment of the prowler. The rattling sound was a plastic ball I had placed in the drain to stop the sewer gas from coming up the drain in the floor. The pressure pushing the smoke was bouncing the ball up and down hitting the drain lid. Man did I feel stupid. The city had sent a notice out the week before requesting all floor drains be filled by pouring 3 glasses of water into them on Friday so no smoke would come up them into your house. I talked to a buddy the next day who is a Fireman in our little town. Said they had over 500 fire calls in 30 minutes. No fires just smoke. So a lot of us did'nt read the notice.

doesnt it tick you off when you answer a post and forget to hit -submit.there is never a reason for cutting a batt.cable, even if you have an electrical fire cutting the cable is useless.the police and fire depts.around here do it all the time, even for minor wrecks.wouldnt it be funny if while they were cutting your cables they accidently cut the positive and grounded the cutters at the same time and blew the air bags,i would be ready to kill.they maybe know how to put out fires, but they no nothing about cars.

So if the police and fire department both make it a habit to cut the power there must be some very good reason to do it. I can think of a few right off. I guess killing the juice after the fire is raging may be pointless but I don't buy the fact that cutting the power is useless. I have more doubts about the airbag going off from a short than I do about killing the power. Good thing Tom didn't prove either theory!

yea he's lucky,a 1000.00 dollar or more repair bill.the cables are part of the frt.end wire harness.supposedly they cut them so the air bags dont deploy.
