I've seen the term "Prowler Trash" tossed around good naturedly from time to time here...It amused me, but I never thought about it much...

...then as I see Prowler owners struggle to become part of car shows like the Turkey Run, etc...I started thinking....

I never see a Prowler in Hot Rod magazine.

Joe Sixpack who rodded and painted his 32 Ford doesn't consider the Prowler a hot rod.

We are snubbed by anyone with a V8 or V10....

Most people think I built it myself...

I have come to love the term Prowler Trash....I want it on a shirt!

BTW: The rep from DC told me last week that he once drove a Prowler for a week, and though he drove Vettes, Vipers, etc....he called the Prowler.."The most decadent piece of chocolate cake you could ever drive...Nothing like it!"

...PROUD TO BE PROWLER TRASH..

The term 'Prowler Trash' was kind of coined by MadMax, quite awhile back. There was about 15 of us Az cats on a cruise to Sedona, Az. where another Prowler owner lives. We were invited to take a tour of their beautiful home secluded in the lavish red rock country of Sedona. Upon reaching the main gate to this exclusive community of multi-multi million dollar homes, the gate opens and we precede on our journey. Besides admiring the homes, one sees a surplus of Lambos, Rolls, and Ferraris in the driveways. All of us having our two-way radios on,,,,the airwave is extremely quiet while we slowly motor down the road past several more of these castles built into the rock country landscape,,,,,until we hear the voice of MadMax noticing that these home owners are watching us out of their windows and says what he thinks (in a joking way) they are saying about us:

"LOOK Honey,,,,,it's Prowler Trash in our neighborhood"

Everyone cracks up with laughter,,,,,I had tears running down my cheeks,,,,and thought he is probably right about what they are thinking about us, LOL. This is not meant to be a slam against Prowler owners,,,,,I know most all of you have worked hard all of your lives to have the nicer things you now enjoy. I commend you for that! But on that particular day, some of us there,,,, were way out of our league. We found the humor in the statement and hope you do not regard it as a statement about you owning a Prowler.

I'm surprised no one linked the recent article posted by CJ to which AC responded:

Geeezzz Black Tie.....your call to demonstrate our Prowler Patriotism chokes me up :tears: .

I LOVE the idea!! Wouldn't it be great if we could purchase T-Shirts either locally or at events that could say: "Prowler Trash...Austin Texas Chapter.. 2004".."Prowler Trash...Nigara Falls Chapter 2004"...etc..

Nahhh....maybe not..we'd start arguing about what colors and never get anyting done??

I'm glad you people aren't offended being called Prowler Trash, lol. I was worried about even posting that story, thinking some would not like that title. Glad to know that many of you can see some humor to it. When Lethia first bought her orange cat and started to post again, she added to her signature >>> Proud member of the Az Prowler Trash I thought somebody would pick up on that and ask her about it. I often see local car shows being advertised,,,,asking for pre 1973 cars to attend I say to myself: They don't want us Prowler Trash to be apart of their car show, lol. Their loss,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,maybe someday they will beg us to attend their car shows! Our POA owners are good people who enjoy their cats!

In response to someone above saying they thought they were way out of their league, let me say this. Life has been very good to me. By course of dumb luck, I have been taken very well of money wise. I have had Ferrari, Delorean, Hummer, Corvette, and Rolls. And of course I was happy to drive all of them.

With that said, I tell you honestly, I've never loved a car so much as I love my Prowler. The looks, the questions, and the knowledge that the Prowler is truely a unique vehicle. My friends, many of whom drive high end cars also, are asking me everyday now if they can drive it. My best friend here, a local prominent attorney, has asked me to use my prowler to take his wife out on their 25th wedding anniversary, and said he wants to trade cars for the weekend, with his $280,000.00 2003 Rolls Royce.

I think when you drove through that gated community, they were not looking down at you at all. I think each and every one of them wanted to be sitting exactly where you were; in the drivers seat.

I love the term Prowler Trash. It's the most ironic statement ever, cause every real piece of "trash" wants one. I don't mean to speak down on anyone at all. But reality is there's lots of wackos that come up to me and start talking to me about the car. So I speak from experience.

I agree with everyone so far. Here is my story, kinda long.
When I was building my new home we lived in a mobile home park for 9 months. During that time I frequently drove my Prowler and often the other cars(Ferrari,Lambo,Corvette, Viper,Grand National and so on). Everyone in the park thought I was a drug dealer. At the Christmas party my wife and I had for all of the residents a older gentleman approached me. He asked what I did for a living, I told him, he looked very relieved and jokingly said, "it's good to know your are just white trash like the rest of us".
When we moved into our new home, in a gated community, one of my nosey neighbors saw me drive up in my 1986 Chevrolet S10 that I use as a work truck, she then walked over to me and said, "please don't park that truck where we can see it, no one here likes trashy people". Being concerned I went and introduced myself to every person in the neighborhood, I soon found out that she was an exception, all of my neighbors have come by and welcomed My family and all of the cars to the neighborhood. The kicker to all this is, out of all the cars in the garage (17) the Prowler was the favorite, they all just had to get in the Prowler and have a picture taken. My eldest neighbor is 92 years old, he wanted a ride, instead I let him drive, we rode around for 2 hours.... he cried after getting out when we returned home.
He will get to drive again very soon!!!!!!

GREAT comments and stories! Keep them coming!

During the winter in Arizona,,,we get lots of older snowbirds into the area. At the car shows, many snowbird couples look at the Prowler and ask questions about it. Many of the old guys pull me aside and whisper: PLYMOUTH??? I remember my first love,,,,,,in the backseat of an old Plymouth! Makes my heart feel proud,,,I shake their hands and tell 'em I'll bet they could still do that today!

AC... Thanks for the origin of the story of Prowler Trash...That story makes me love the term even more!!

I can't imagine a Prowler owner offended by that term knowing the tongue-in-cheek meaning. It's kind of like two rappers calling each other fond slangs that no outsider could get away with saying...

I want that saying on a T-shirt, and now I want to know where CJ got that shirt that says "You get it or you don't". CJ...where did THAT shirt come from??? I love it!

Anyway...I'm glad everyone is taking the term as it was intended....tongue-in-cheek.

We go to our little airport every third Sunday for breakfast, they let us park our cars on the tarmac. A lot of the car clubs come out. We overheard a fellow, after seeing our kat say to his buddy its not a Viper but that other one?

I've had people ask me if it was a Viper, "That thing have a V10", and more. People just don't know and we never quite fit in any where we go. We don't fit in as a Hot Rod, Exotic Car, Sports Car ... so where does it leave us? Retros? (T-brid, SSR, Bug)

Great shirt. Reminds me of one of my Harley shirts that reads "If i have to explain you wouldn't understand"

Makes me proud to be TWO kinds of trash and to think i actually have more money in my bike than i have in my kat. Yet try to rent a nice hotel room while you are wearing your "leathers" and see what looks and service if any you receive.

What a country!

Great Stories. Thanks for sharing. For those of you who want the "Get it or you don't" shirt, I found mine last year from a T-shirt vender at a Mopar event. As for those folks living in "Sedona", watching the Prowlers, I'll bet they were envious. Most people who see us grouped together are envious and wish they had friends like us. I was a drag boat racer for many years and I had a great time; I have been associated with and envolved with many car associations, racing associations, car clubs, etc., BUT, I have had more fun being involved with and associating with Prowler Owners, than any of my previous associations. Not one Prowler owner that I have met has been pretentious. I was standing in the parking lot of the host hotel at PROWLING the SMOKIES and looking over the sea of Prowlers assembled. A friend and fellow Prowler owner stood next to me and made this statement: " You know what I like about this group of people? I look out here and I see people I could buy "3" times, and I also see people who could buy me "10" times; but you would never know it!!!" When we are together we are all just Prowler Owners having a good time.
I hope to get to meet many more of you this year at one of the Prowler events. We are different than most of the other car owners--- and that is a Good Thing.
Jim
