Ugghhh... I don't even know where to begin. Basically, we come out of Home Depot walk on over to the "safe" stall that I parked in, quite a distance away and I notice that my rear plates are gone. For a second I thought maybe they fell off because who in the world would steal plates? But after checking out where the fasteners WERE it was obvious. I guess it's pretty easy, somebody just needs to grab both sides of your plate and give a quick yank. The fiberglass will easily give way and the theif gets your plate complete with screws and fasteners. Here's some pictures of the damage to the fiberglass that the fasteners sit in: Overall: http://www.cranker.com/pics/plate/rearfull.jpg Right fastener seat: http://www.cranker.com/pics/plate/rear-right-plate-hole.jpg Left fastener seat: http://www.cranker.com/pics/plate/rear-left-plate-hole.jpg Happier days: http://www.cranker.com/pics/plate/plate.jpg We've already gone through the appropriate measures and have ordered the same replacements. Geeze, and I've only had this plate for just over a month! What I'm going to do is make my own bracket so that it'll be possible for me to conveniently remove them whenever I feel I may need to. Luckily they didn't take the front plate (yes I'm actually using the front plate). It came installed courtesy of the dealership, and they drilled 3 holes right into the front bumper, before we even initially looked at the car of course. More on how to fix this later. One thing I wouldn't suggest anyone doing is beefing up the bracket for the rear plate. If someone were to attempt to steal the rear plate, and you had some kind of reinforcement back there, they could possible cause quite a bit of damage to that back fiberglass panel. I'd much rather have them take the plate and leave small damage to where the fasteners sit then to cause expensive damage. But of course if there's no plate there to take in the first place... |
