DarthProwlerHas anyone ever tried powder coating the barrels or even the entire wheels in order to alleviate the chrome pealing?
ALLEY CATNot my cars,,,but I've seen two sets of wheels [inside barrels] painted.....one with silver paint and the other with flat back paint. Both looked very acceptable, and probably a lot less expensive than powder coating.
Maybe some owner who has powder coated the wheels will post up their opinion. Good luck
Landscape DoctorPainted the inner strip,,, the rest is still good. You must strip the chrome off and make sure you get all the corrosion ground off. Many steps involved and very time consuming,,, if your retired you have time,,, if you work 80 hour weeks not so good. Well worth the satisfaction when done.

garysssThat does it for me, I'm taking wheels off throwing them in the truck and heading north to LD house for Friday nights dinner and dessert. He should have time over the weekend to get mine done. LOL
ed monahanFabulous results. Let me know how he does with yours Gary, I have 12 to get done but will wait until he is finished with yours.
garysssEd I will let you know how mine turn out. I'm not sure what LD is talking about being retired and having extra time. Since I've been semi retired the last 8 years, I don't seem to get anything done.
stevedymoGary, LD didn't say anything about 'extra' time. He carefully stated you have time. Not 'more' or 'extra' time. I'm retired and I only have 24 hours in my day, just like you. Being retired doesn't give us more or extra time to get things done. That is 1 perk retirees don't get, a 30 hour day. lol
ALLEY CATRetired,,, means you don't have time to get everything you need to do,,done.
DarthProwlerWow! Landscape Doctor, that looks fantastic, I took the lazy way out. I bought a 20” prowler wheel on eBay and dropped it off at the powder coated to be PVD finished in a black chrome. But your work looks amazing. I just don’t think if I did it it would look that good.

I’m hoping if that wheel looks good I’ll do the ones on the car.

ProwzNice work. Looks good!
DarthProwlerJust got the sample wheel back that I sent off to get a PVD finish. Posting pics so everyone can see how this looks. This is a "Black Chrome" PVD finish. They also do this in a bright chrome.

garysssLooks like they did a great job. Do you mind telling us how much? Were the barrels peeling?
DarthProwlerI bought an extra wheel on Ebay for $105.00.
The wheel was that cheap because most of the chrome had peeled off the barrell and the majority of the chrome and bubbled and peeled off the the front, so the wheel was pretty darn ugly.

I sent it to a place in Los Angeles called American PVD. With the chrome stripping, PVD and center cap coating the total was $250.00. It may be possible to get it done less expensive at other places but this place specializes in wheels and they really seem to do a very detailed job.

garysssThanks for info.
