mslc10It seems there is some turn over and newer Kat owners and I thought I would post this for future info and if you are finding yourself looking for new wheels you need to know what to look for . You need the original wheel specs to make it fit and look right. Big issue is front wheels in the fenders. If they are wrong the tire will be rubbing on fender lip or the fender bracket. Neither is acceptable . So this is the chart I use . As you can see you take the known stats of your current wheel , 7.5 wide and 5.5 backspace. Draw your lines and get 32 offset.
Now if you want an 8 " wide wheel but the same 32 offset , draw your line from 8" wide over to 32 offset , go up and it gives you the backspace of 5.75. This is the correct specs for an 8" wide rim to be centered in the front fender. This is normally listed as 17x8 5.75 bs ( for backspace)

mslc10It is helpful to have correct offset numbers to shop other wheels. The stock front wheel is 17x7.5. If all you can find is 17x8 , then it is a half inch wider, you then have to "half" that half inch ,giving you a quarter or.25 ( on both sides of wheel). Adding that to the original backspace of 5.5 gives you 5.75. Ideally you want a 5.75 vs 5.88(the plus35 min offset on the foose wheel from original post) in front. You can't go less ,but you can go more and add spacers to push wheel out ( altho not recommended). You can also add a shims to the fender, remembering all of this is to center the wheel/tire in the middle of the fender . The above 5.88 was deemed " close enough" by me in that this is only off by 1/8 of an inch and in the scheme of all things negligible . Your tastes may differ.
The key here is the greater the offset brings your tires inboard. Conversely lower pushes them out . It's like smoke ,once it's out you can't get it back in . But if it's in you can spacer it out.

This is the best info and charts : http://www.rsracing.com/TechWheel.aspx

And after all this if you want to see what I went with .......

skb4076This extremely good information regarding backspacing/offset for the front Prowler wheels. I had a set of Foose Montereys custom built about 2 years ago and used the 32 offset on the 17x8 front wheels as being recommended. The wheels fit perfectly and are centered on the fenders.
