Tony Goertz | A "special order" manufacture of performance gears has been arranged. Gear sets will be offered at $1350.00. They are made by the OEM. Package includes electronic adapter to adjust your speedometer See G-Force Performance Gears for details.------------------ Little Canuck 99 TonyG@ProwlerOnline.com |
jd2ksilver | I'm glad they came down for all who don't have them yet. I've got my money's worth many times over in the fun factor. good deal for all,, ------------------
|
butchcee | without having to do the math, are these gear sets the same ratio as Dean's at Prowler-Pro? How does he feel about having someone copying his product? I feel that his price was WAY too high, and I also bet that a handy profit is being made at 1350. I think if he lowered his price to match, I would purchase from him as he makes other stuff for the Cat, and would hate to lose a vendor.OMO ------------------ Yellow is DCOOLEST |
Laddie Roussel | I'm glad to see another Vendor & lower costs. I think this is a good alternative for those looking for gears. I already have the Prowler Pro gears installed. ------------------ |
FatManInTheBathTub | Hey now JP, heres your chance to get a set for more spectacular burnouts and donuts................you showoff..... |
butchcee | Laddie, I 'm glad to see the lower cost also, I just dont like plagiarism. I see the attempt to offer a different ratio is offered, but it's not 100% right with the loose chain so a different settup then Dean's must have been considered. I had thought about the idea of making the sets available at a MUCH reduced price. All I priced was the gears, not the converter or chain. I think going to Borg Warner is not cost effective. So what that they make the originals? You get a blank made, send it to the gear cutter and then the heat treater. Less then $100 bucks a gear in lots of 50 or 100. ------------------ Yellow is DCOOLEST |
jd2ksilver | I thought this was the same OEM that Dean used? And your right Al. If it were the same I would hope Dean would lower his price also and would encourage to purchase from him. Loose chain does not sound good to me at all. |
FatManInTheBathTub | Hey now, I was gonna call Dean to see if he has any plans on making a real drag race set of gears and chain......... |
butchcee | FM, unless you change the pitch of the chain, you're pretty much limited to what we have unless someone can come up with an idler gear of some kind. ------------------ Yellow is DCOOLEST |
Larry Lord | On the G-Force gears YOU WILL NOT HAVE A LOOSE CHAIN. This topic only applies to the Special Edition Racing Gearset that is not even manufactured at this time. While possible to manufacture, the wear will be significantly increased and the cost will be higher due to the limited quantities needed for the "RACING USE ONLY" gearsets. The G-Force gears are of the same high quality as the other leading gears currently marketed for the Prowler. There are made by same the Original Equipment Manufacturer as the gears in your stock Prowler.
|
Tony Goertz | The chain length is the most limiting factor. Each pitch is .4346" The engineers suggust a usable life of the chain is a stretch of .109" (1/4 pitch) This defines the point when the chain will no longer transmit torque, therefore, as the chain grows longer, its' ability to transmit torque diminishes. The 35/25 gears START with chain slack of .072" They have proven to work fine and last. The 34/26 gears START with chain slack of .085" You make your own conclusion !! I have seen very sloppy chains working fine in similar applications - 4WD transfer cases etc. There also seems to be two schools of thought regarding the setup for 1/4 mile use. One thought is to decrease the ratio (34/26) so that the car stays in 3rd gear and doesn't get effected by the Overdrive - 4th gear. The other thought is to increase the ratio even higher to increase your RPM. Hopefully this would increase your boost and horsepower enough to overcome the burden of the 4th OD gear and result in a faster time. I am researching if the larger gears required (for second choice) will actually fit under the cover.

Alex | So Guys.... Whats the consensus??? Are Dean's gears the way to go, even though they cost more... or are these G-Force gears a bargin and the way to go???? Alex ------------------ 2001 Orange Kat |
Laddie Roussel | Alex, if I were making choice now, I'd go with G-Force and save money (you can buy an exhaust system with savings) & go out & have fun... Gears are Gears... ------------------ |
FatManInTheBathTub | Hey now Alex, I'm sure the G-Force are every bit as good as Deans and at a better price. The stock gears are a little different to look at but I've got like 10K miles on my prowler pro gears and no problem except the ratio. I sure hope G-Force doesn't raise the ratio to try to use 4th gear for drag racing, 4th is just a dog, its overdrive and shouldn't be used at all for drags. If any of you guys ever dyno, you would know the RPM and HP fall to the floor when you hit 4th so please don't go that route................ |
Alex | Thanks FatMan and Laddie. I appreciate your opinions. Alex ------------------ 2001 Orange Kat |
JUST JP | FatMan, Jerry; I just found your post. I'll wait till someone offers the gears for less than a thousand, maybe even $500. I just bought tires and that put me in another almost $500 worth of debt. But thanks for calling me a show off on the burnouts. ------------------ 2000 Black Kat "self-proclaimed" poorest Prowler owner mods: 1) ceramic pads 2) K&N filter 3) "cracked ice" shimmers 4) $16 "chromed" grill :)

FatManInTheBathTub | Hey now JP, when I saw you burn that donut at River City Raceway and get it up on two wheels.............what could you do with a set of gears???? Hows your little buddy doing???? Hope hes doing fine...... ------------------ Worlds Fastest Prowler

JUST JP | Jerry, Wasn't sure how that donut looked from the outside. No one has said anything, except you. Thanks. As far as Patrick, I just wrote myself a note today to call them; I haven't seen them in a while. I went to Fort Walton Beach for a week on vacation. In Florida, but waaaaaay away from you guys. I'll have to go visit Patrick and give everyone an update.------------------ 2000 Black Kat "self-proclaimed" poorest Prowler owner mods: 1) ceramic pads 2) K&N filter 3) "cracked ice" shimmers 4) $16 "chromed" grill :)

Larry Summers | Tony; I ordered the G-Force gears, and was informed by my Tech this AM there is a delay of some sort in getting them, as he stated something about Borp-Warner, which owns the machine tool rights, has placed some kind of stop order or moratorium on them. What do you know about this? larrys@dlease.com |
FatManInTheBathTub | hey now, I hope you didn't send in any mola............. ------------------ Worlds Fastest Prowler
