Californians fed up with housing costs and taxes are fleeing state in big numbers

•More Californians are moving from the Golden State, particularly lower-income residents, although even middle-class residents are saying goodbye.
•The trend is a symptom of the state's housing crunch and, for some, high taxes.
•Census Bureau data show California lost just over 138,000 people to domestic migration in the 12 months ended in July 2017.
•Lower-cost states such as Arizona, Texas and Nevada are popular destinations for relocating Californians.

Californians may still love the beautiful weather and beaches, but more and more they are fed up with the high housing costs and taxes and deciding to flee to lower-cost states such as Nevada, Arizona and Texas.

Some excerpts;

from July 2016 to July 2017
During that 12-month period, California saw a net loss of just over 138,000 people, while Texas had a net increase of more than 79,000 people. Arizona gained more than 63,000 residents, and Nevada gained more than 38,000.

Data from United Van Lines show some of the most popular moving destinations for Californians from 2015 to 2017 were Texas, Arizona, Oregon, Washington and Colorado. Other experts also said Nevada remains a top destination.

The median monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the Los Angeles area is $2,249, and in San Francisco it's almost $3,400, according to Zumper. The median rent for a two-bedroom apartment in the Los Angeles area is $3,200 and in San Francisco about $4,500. By comparison, the median rent for a one-bedroom in Las Vegas is $925 and in Phoenix $945, and for a two-bedroom in Las Vegas $1,122 and in Phoenix $1,137.

California's $550,990 median price statewide for an existing single-family home compares with the national median price of $247,800, according to the National Association of Realtors and its state association.

California is often criticized as one of the highest-taxed states in the nation.

Last year, Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, signed a 12-cent-per-gallon increase in the state's excise tax on gasoline, bringing the tax to 41.7 cents per gallon, or a 40 percent jump. Drivers in California already pay the highest average for gasoline after Hawaii.

cstallI was afraid of that...
The problem with Californians moving to other states, like AZ, is that they often bring their crazy liberal ideas with them.

But the GOOD news for CA: those 138K taxpaying residents who left will be replaced by 200K illegals seeking sanctuary!

So true,,,but PUlosi and the whacko Cally libs will take good care of them... Benefits,,lots of benefits to the poverty poor for their vote...

I think Gov Moonbeams should raise their gas tax even higher, and get ahead of Hawaii's gas tax

KlasKatHere in the metro Denver area the last survey showed that about 300,000 have moved here from good old Cal. bringing their stupid Progressive ideas with them and screwing up a great city with pot and the rest of it. What many do not know is that about 110,000 have moved away because of it making sure this state will remain red for a long time unless we can get some of them to wake up and vote for Trump.
phil2237Don't know much about people fleeing as I do not see it. You have to stand in line to buy homes here in Orange County and then buyers get into bidding wars to purchase. Most home sales sell for more than the seller was asking. Home prices are thru the roof here as there are very few homes for sale unless you are spending over a million dollars which many homes now go for. House taxes are not that expensive as Illinois has 3 times more property tax than California. California does tax everything but the air you breath though, Don't know what tax rates are thru out the U.S. But our home is now in the $ 790.000 range with property tax at $ 3200.00 a year. Have family in Illinois and their tax bills are 15 to 20 thousand a year. But the weather here is fantastic.

StingRayAC, Moonbeam doesn't care .... liberal leaders DO NOT CARE since their are essentially all anti-American and place greater importance on being the hind teet for the world's poor an worthless sponges that do not wish to contribute.

phil2237Homes are very over priced here. My original intentions were to move here from Chicago to Orange County only for a few years. I was here exactly 2 years and had bought a home right after moving here. In just the first two years of living here, I could have sold my home here in California , moved backed to my old home and paid cash with JUST the profit I had made on my home here. That is how fast prices were rising in the 80s and still to this day. We need to get a new Governor as ours SUCKS
Many say they would never move here, the traffic is bad, taxes everywhere, but the weather is beautiful. That is why I have never left....Yet

401KATGlad your back Phil....just cant make myself come visit u though....WAY to many Libs out there.....lol....jim
phil2237Used to be a very nice place to live....other than the weather, its not that great anymore
StingRayFunny ... eldest daughter conducted college search and two southern cal universities were on her radar and accepted her. When visiting, all they pushed was the weather, and how nice it is, and close to the beaches and sunny all year .... there was actually more push on the weather than on the academics .... pretty frightening if you think about it.

Hey Phil, is that a typo? On a $790k home your RE taxes are only $3,200/yr? Thats insanely cheap ... is that why everything else is SO expensive you think, to make up for the low RE taxes?

You are right, typical RE taxes here in lovely corrupt IL, specifically Crook County on a $790k shack would be about $23k / year!! And crapy weather 6 months out of the year!

Michael PondThey are fleeing California to Colorado, but bring their crap that caused their problems with them. Don't be caught Californicating in Colorado!!
