Years ago, health insurance was devised to be a "perk" or incentive that employers voluntarily offered in order to attract employees..... This message has been edited by bjprowler on 03-22-2017 at 04:31 PM If you want the national debt to climb to 40 trillion quickly,,, sure that would be OK. With that said,,, the political hacks get kickbacks from the insurance company's to vote there way. Very dificult for a fix if this keeps happening. When it cost $2,000 for a 10 mile ride with a ambulance,,, another problem. My Dad passed away June of 2014,,, I take care of all my Mom's bills and financials. The other day I received a bill for $11,000 from the hospital, they said insurance would not pay. I sent them a nice letter with my Dad's plot #. Debtors have one year to file a claim in most states. When you go into probate after the death the judge will tell you who is making a claim on your parents estate. If they have a real claim the money owed will be charged against that estate. Usually if it's under a few thousand dollars nothing will happen. If it is a large amount they will want to settle at a lower amount. If it's the Government you better get a lawyer. If the money owed is more than the value of the estate You will owe nothing after the value of the estate has been exhausted. In your case they will be after your Mom for your Dads bills. If she lives in a HOMESTEAD state ( like Florida) and her home is registered they are not allowed to take her home. LD I truly hope you did that. It would be too beautiful. Gort YOU are responsible for your parents debt if....... Landscape Doctor I have a great lawyer Gort,,, nothing,,, absolutely nothing is in my mothers name. She gets a SS check and thats it. They can not take that from her because that is her only means of living. All this was done 15 years ago,, no probate necessary. I would suggest everyone else doing the same. Life is cruel sometimes and you never know if you are next. Makes things go very smoothly for the loved ones left behind. garysss The fact that he is paying all his moms bills, make me think the estate or his mom has any money. Landscape Doctor You got it Gary. How do you think the rich folk do it. You just need to be smart enough to play the same game. And a great estate lawyer,,,lol. StingRay Back to Reecheeee's proposal ....I would counter, and in addition to enacting TERM LIMITS, I would say that Congress, conversely, be on the same health care as the average citizen ... deductibles and all. THAT is the only way they will DO THEIR JOBS and craft a solution that "works" ... otherwise, what is their motivation to do so?! Landscape Doctor I like it Ray,,,, eat from the same dish.
