padroo	I just watched the video on TV. The ship looked like it lost power twice then hit the bridge.
garysss	I don't live that far from the bridge, maybe 3 miles. Cindy goes over it every week, I used it reguLar when I was doing ship lines. I woke up around 0130 to loud noise that sounded like thunder, but went on for longer then normal thunder. I thought what the heck was that. Cindy woke me up this morning to say the bridge collapsed. SirReal	Gary did you hear 5 short horn blasts coming from the cargo ship before impact I know the authorities had been notified from the ship about their power problems. I just can't get the workers that went down with the bridge out of my thoughts. Did they have any warning? Also what powers the horns? Could they have lost the horns. On a positive note the Port Authorities did a great job in getting the bridge closed before any more cars or trucks were involved. Oh and by the way How you both doin'? Hope all is well. Jeff
ed monahan	Jeff. good to see you posting. I just mentioned your tip about cleaning the rims with Windex to someone a day or two ago.
SirReal	ED thanks for reply. NOT Windex but Dawn soap and buffing with a micro-fiber towel. That info came from a service bulletin.

Jeff Hi Jeff, it is good to see you posting. We are doing good and we hope you two are doing good also. I did not hear any horns, but they usually blow horns to get other boats to get out of the way. I don't think anyone on the bridge would have known why they were blowing horns anyway. I'm not sure why the crew on bridge was not notified to get off as soon as they closed the bridge to traffic. Only thing I can think is they couldn't hear radio for some reason. The 2 they found yesterday were in a work truck, so maybe they were trying to get back off bridge. They might have been watching ship approach bridge like any other time, with no idea it was going to hit bridge.

alrtg	On my way to work Tuesday morning the "Message Boards" on 795 & 695 said that the Bridge was Closed, use alternate routes. I thought it was odd as it wasn't windy enough to warrant that. Once I arrived at work, I learned about the collapse of the Bridge. In hindsight, the sign should have said the Bridge was Gone. Last evening I watched the news which is something I usually avoid. After all the "Important" individuals conveyed their condolences and said what they had to say, the quest was brought up about notifications to the workers. The answer was that one of the survivors did say that he was notified "Audibly" to get off the bridge and as he was retreating, he saw the bridge collapsing behind him. The Red Pick Up that the two workers were found in was probably a company vehicle. One of the folks on the news mentioned the name of the contractor that was on the bridge. That company does a good bit of work for the Government in the Baltimore area, and their pick up trucks are typically Red ones. After watching the news, I did a search and found a You Tube Video of the bridge that was about seven minutes long. My guess it was taken from a fixed camera that looked toward the bridge. I saw traffic crossing as the container ship was approaching and about 30, maybe 45 seconds before impact, traffic was no longer visible. What surprised me was how quick the bridge collapsed. I watched the video a couple times but still have a difficult time comprehending what I saw. My heart goes out to all involved and the families of those who lost their lives.

MDProwler	That was a crazy newscast to wake up to. Where I’m not as close as Gary and didn’t hear the crash I do think I heard Gary snoring. 😛 I never really liked that bridge and most people around here were against it back in the 70’s when it was built. But they needed a way for truck traffic to get thru Baltimore when carrying hazardous loads.(can’t use the tunnels)
ed monahan	On our news they said the government is going to sue the shipping company as the vessel was not seaworthy. The government will probably send them billions in foreign aid within a year. yikes.
