Randy CobbI hate to see this.
My parents were Sears people. Kenmore appliances and Craftsman tools were staples in our household and in most others in the 50s thru the 80s. I got our last washer and dryer at Sears.

I don't know what happened but everyone I knew growing up shopped at Sears, there were Sears brand tools, appliances, clothes, shoes in everyone's house. My 1st new bicycle was a purple 20" stingray style bike from Sears.

But today I hardly ever go to Sears, they never have what I want or need. Even their sales are not very good. Looked a roto tiller last fall and they have the same brands as lowes, Home Depot.

Would like to see them make it but looks like the end is coming soon for them.

ALLEY CATCraftsman tools are still available at Amazon.com and at ACE Hardware stores.

My 1996 Kenmore Ultra Fabric Care washing machine has worked flawlessly for 20 years,, and w/o ever a part failure or service call.

knock on wood

garysssI bought 2 Kenmore refrigerators there in the last couple years. The old Sears Frigs only lasted 34 & 32 years. Sold my Sears riding mower last year, it was 30 years old and still working great, I only sold it because I got a deal on a John Deere rider. I don't seem to go there that often any more either.
LSKGoing into the Sears in the Asheville Mall is like shopping in a ghost town. Hardly any help and fewer customers. I used to buy tires and tools there all the time, but after getting screwed over on a set of tires, I seldom shop there anymore. My dad did wiring during the construction of the 1st Asheville Sears store when it was built around 1950. I did wiring on the Sears built at the mall in the early 70's. My dad was a 44 year IBEW member when He retired and I had 46 years of IBEW membership when I retired in 2011.
GortKnoxville Sears is also like a ghost store. Mall locations are not good. Stand alone stores like Target, Lowes, Home Depot and Best Buy are not in Malls usually. Sears will not change it's policy at all. A lot of Sears have escalators which is not popular either.

Kmart would not change either, they are dirty stores. Very minimum cleaning and service. Walmart leads the way, no escalators and very clean and loaded with helpful service. Women pushing babies not like escalators.

Sears will slowly melt away. The internet will end up winning the sales race. Amazon is growing really fast.

39 years with UA steamfitters union. You live better union.

phil2237First Montgomery Wards now Sears, As I was growing up, If Wards sold what my folks needed, that's where they bought most everything. Very sad to see Sears tanking. Used to really like Montgomery Wards. Who would have ever believed these two would go under. When I was a kid, everyone shopped at one or the other. Just glad Ace Hardware carries Craftman tools, as when I need a replacement in the future, that is where I will need to go. It is also amazing how Ace Hardware is still around as they have to compete with Home Depot & Orchard's.

ed monahanI broke a ratchet and went back to Sears. They told me there was no one working in the tool Dept. until 6 PM. It was about 5:30 at that point. Unbelievable.
Also Sears parts are extremely expensive compared to what you can get from Amazon for the same thing.
LSKThe first motorcycle I ever rode was an Allstate from Sears. I was about 12 years old at the time. It belonged to one of my cousins. He showed me how to change gears and use the clutch and the brakes and off I went. Had to turn it around without stopping when I got to the end of the road because I wasn't too sure on using the clutch. After a mile or so, I had it mastered. My Mother wasn't too happy when she saw me going by our house. No helmet and a big grin. I paid for that foolishness when I finally came back home.
ALLEY CATIt seems mall location stores only have good traffic flow during the Christmas shopping season and are pretty quiet the rest of the year. During the summer months, student age kids hang-out at them to have something-to-do because their parents don't want them staying in the house all day playing video games.

My parents always preferred shopping at Sears, Wards, and JC Penny stores.........but let's face it, the internet has changed 'life' in today's world.

UFCW/30 years

Randy CobbI have a push mower that I use for trim work that I bought from Sears in 1994. Still starts on first or second pull.
Michael PondJust read where Sears is planning on selling off Kenmore, Craftsman, Diehard, and Home Repair. 4 of their major brands.
