BeWare | When I was in Vietnam (Air Force) I worked in the Bomb Dump. The Army would bring up from the docks, 6X6 truck loads of 1,000 lb bombs. We were unloading the bombs from the trucks using a crane and cables as we could not use fork lifts on these particular trucks. We were neatly stacking the bombs in the revetment as we unloaded them. The only problem is that it takes much longer to unload using a crane than the Army was accustomed too and the line of trucks waiting to unload grew longer and longer. Getting tired of hearing the Army drivers complaints we told them to drop their tailgates back up fast, hit the brakes and dump the bombs on the ground and we would pick them up with fork lifts. An Army LT. drove up in a Jeep to see how things were going. He took one look at the truck dumping the bombs on the ground, said something to the effect that we had lost our minds and got out of there as quickly as he could. It was actually quite safe as without a fuse, bombs are usually very stable unless they have been sitting for an extremely long time. |
garysss | Rich I have to agree with the LT, doesn't sound like a good idea, but heck I wasn't there. |
