BobEtherMy Prowler takes fuel very slow when fueling. The fuel nozzle keeps tripping and I have to slow the flow. Is this a problem with others?
mrbuzzardHey hi I just fixed my dodge minivan sounds like the same problem I had, It turn out to be the gas tank vent. The way it works is as you fill your tank with gas the vent relieves the pressure that builds up in the tank.... Check the vent, my minivan was on the side the side of the filler tube on one end and on the top of the tank.... Hope this helps you, Let me know how you make out....
koolktyYes, this is very common. The position of the fuel tank above the transaxle, the unusual shape of the tank, and the design of the filler tube contribute to this issue. If you do some searches on this site you'll find many stories and ways to help mitigate it. I have a 2000, and in 2001 a redesigned filler tube was installed that is supposed to improve the flow. I purchased one of these new tubes last year after my car was already put in storage for the winter. A long time member of the POA, who's screen name is 'parts', had one left. When I can take my car out this year and burn off enough fuel to replace the filler tube, I am hoping for an improvement in the fill rate. I will report back with results.
kriegsadmiralDo you have a 99? that year has the most problems. That is my year and I have the same issue. I just plan on about 10 minutes to put in a couple gallons. LOL

TucsonJerHi Bob, this is a problem that we all have experienced. If I may, let me tell you what I do which has eliminated the problem for me. The first thing and I think the most important thing I do is I try to avoid getting gas until my fuel gauge is BELOW the half full mark. The second thing is I turn the nozzle so that the squeeze handle is in the 3 o’clock position. Lastly I only squeeze the handle about halfway to avoid trying to fill too fast. I developed this technique last year when we drove the Prowler to Michigan to attend the 20th Anniversary celebration and since then I’ve NEVER had a problem filling the tank. I’m not saying this is the sure fire fix for this problem but it consistently works for me. Good luck. Jer

Yes, mine is a '99.

ed monahanDo what Tucson Jer suggested and it will be MUCH improved.
TucsonJerBob, I forgot to mention mine is also a 99. Also if you take your car to a Chrysler dealership they can use your vin number and tell you whether or not the recalls have been performed on your car. Jer
DanoYou can also check online by typing in your VIN:

I always fill as slow as possible, ( not just my prowler but all my cars) but I also try and have passenger side of car higher than drivers side and front end lower than rear end. I had the filler tube replaced on mine when TSB came out on them. It helped some but not completely.

Try different stations in your area and see if some are better than others. There is really no one thing that will cure it.

I tried this with my Red 99, and it worked great!!! No more problems with filling! Thank you TuscanJer!

BeWareSort of related. I saw a helpful tip the other day. It said if you see the tanker truck at the station filling the storage tanks don't but gas there that day. The tanker trucks delivering the gas stirs up sediment in the bottom of storage tanks and you could be pumping it into your gas tank.
TucsonJerdrbutton, After all the help I’ve gotten from this forum, I’m proud that I finally got to help someone else. Jer
