Greg and VetaWe did not start this trip to Michigan well. Did not even make it out of FL and had a tire throw it's thread. Amazingly it continued to hold air. Fortunately I had a spare, put that on, and went to Walmart and picked up another spare. They told me it would be a 3 hour wait, so I picked up one of their pre-mounted tires. Got into GA then the old spare separated the same way. Put on my new extra spare but realized the tire just in front of this one was damaged during the violent separation and was now rapidly loosing air. Tried the fix a flat but the damage was too large and the fix a flat didn't do spit.

I put the first tire, without tread back on just to nurse it to the nearest place for repair. Saturday evening near 8 is not a good time for this.

We are stuck in McDonough GA for the night, and waiting for a tire place to open tomorrow .....we are right next to a discount tire, BUT they are closed tomorrow.

Looks like we will be getting in MUCH later than expected.

Wife asked me if I wanted to return home. No way, or at least I an not giving up yet. I will try to post the few pictures I took.

garysssSorry to hear your having so much trouble early on your trip. I know it's hard, but try to stay positive and hope things will go your way tomorrow.
Greg and VetaGuess I should say that this problem is on the trailer we are hauling the car on. Could be worse.

I know....should have just driven the Prowler.

StingRayBe Safe ,,, things will work out and DONT try to make up time, the event and fellow Prowler family will be there for you whenever you both arrive!
maugurStay positive and keep going. Malinda and I went to Gatlinburg last year which is normally a 4 hour drive that took 9. The Prowler overheated 2 hours into the trip and had to bring it in for a radiator flush and then we hit a hail storm that made us pull over under a bridge for almost and hour, the new hardtop was leaking water and then we ran into construction and road closures. Trust me when I say we were ready to turn around and go home but we keep going and it was the best 9 day vacation we have had in 17 years. Keep in mind we were suppose to head to Carolina Beach after 4 days but couldn't because of the 1st hurricane going up the east coast. Stay steady my friend and caulk it down as memories and cherish them all... Life is to short not too... Safe travels and enjoy the 20th reunion and the times with friends and family.
padrooKeep positive Greg, things will get better and see you in Miichigan.
druMisery loves company Greg. Had similar issue but a little better outcome. Had gotten a new tire for trailer a couple of weeks ago for tread separation, other 4 looked fine. Four hours into the trip, started feeling sig surging at 75, couldn't initially tell if truck had miss or tranny issue. Finally pulled over and looked at all tires and significant tread separation (internal) on one trailer tire. Put spare on, started looking for tire place. Discount tire about 40 minutes out of the way but went there. Another tire was also starting to internally separate, so got 3 new ones. Took a few hours out of our schedule but oh well, we'll get there when we get there. I don't know if Carlisle tires are subject to failure or not. Trailer (and tires) only 3 1/2 years old, stored inside. Hang in there, we'll keep the light on for you!
CJSorry to hear all that, but hope that you can make it even though it will be later than you planned.

MIKE GATLINSure glad the steel didn't do major damage to your car.
I had a total blowout near Corbin. Ky on the way up this spring and a tread separation near Cleveland, Tn on the way south last fall. That one was holding 55 psi when I took it off. Trailer tires are so poor anymore that I carry 2 mounted spares. Last replacement I bought was a Goodyear Endurance trailer tire. They told me it is the only trailer tire made in this country. I hope it holds up better than the set of Carlisle's.
Good luck with the rest of the trip. See you guys soon.

I heard that new trailer manufacturers buy and put factory "BLEM" tires on trailers because they can buy them so cheap, and keep their cost down while showing its a new tire. My boat trailer tires [ BF G's ]lasted 2 seasons and during the 3rd season the sidewalls bulged out like a giant, bubble knot.. Replaced with 6 ply tires.

Low On CashGlad you didn't sustain any damage when it shredded but looking at your photo's, it looks like the right fender is Ok in one shot but bent up in another.

Also, it looks like your rocker panel is right by the edge of the trailer or does it just look like it is!

Regards Mike

Greg and VetaMade it, but it is late. See you all in the morning.
garysssGlad to hear you made it safe, without any other problems hopefully.
crusso05Glad you are Safe, but this thread did just remind me to check my trailer tire pressure before I leave in the morning Safe Travels everyone!
Greg and VetaWe are having a great time now that we are here and can relax a little. Nice to get a break from the Florida heat and humidity.

Just checked the date codes on the last two remaining original tires, now spares(for a while), and they are from 2011 so 6 years old. One looks like it would not have lasted the whole trip. Going to check in Auburn Hills to see if I can get at least one more good tire.

Looks like Goodyear Endurance are the best bet, and made in the US. The Goodyear Marathons that I ended up with are Chinese and not rated very well. At least they were made this year.

A lot of friends here are sharing similar trailer tire stories.

phil2237Had the same problem when we put the Vegas show on in 2012. My trailer tires were 6 years old, looked new. Blew 2 in the first 100 miles. stopped and had all 4 replaced. I did put on the 8 ply sidewall tires this time. My good friend let me use the trailer for the trip & gave it to me when I came home. The tires are again 5 years old now , but have been up on stands in my garage and still look new, but don't know if I would trust them on a long trip due to being 5 years old. They do too much damage when they let go.
georgieboyGreg and Veta. You say another tire was worn badly. Perhaps your trailer wheels are out of alignment, bent axle etc. Maybe you should have put passenger car tires on trailer. They are more sturdier built. Trailer tires are not meant to go over 65 MPH.

If that is the trailer you haul your Prowler on it should be painter Prowler Red and have Prowler wheels on it. How would that look, WOW!!!
