erichStill on original run-flats with 8k miles. Unable to shut off tire pressure warning light and chime. Local dealer checked to see which tire was involved and test showed all 4 were bad, which he claims is impossible. Won't touch because it might mess up computer. Any ideas or input will be much appreciated.
stevedymoWhat is the Air Pressure reading on each tire? Has the car been sitting and this was the first time taking it out?
erichTire pressure exactly as specified, 28 psi front & 32 rear. This is ongoing problem from a year ago. Doesn't matter whether driving short or long distances.
stevedymoIt is possible then that the battery in each sensors is WEAK or DEAD. One last thing I would try is disconnect the NEG cable for 15 sec and reattach, start the car and drive it above 20 MPH and see if that clears up the problem. If that doesn't work, pull the dash and disconnect the module and remove the Low Tire lite bulb until you get new sensors.
robinMy opinion would be before you drive the car any distance!!
Take off the run flats they are old and dangerous.
Secondly what is your opinion on keeping the sensor?
You can buy a replacement kit cost 600 dollars plug and play.
If you are iPhone savvy you could go after market.

robinIf you don't want to use the TPMS and the light or bell sound comes on . Just Pull the Dash back and unplug the light and sending unit .Check Tire pressure time to time and Problem solved ..

CJErich.....Who was your dealer? Golling Chrysler Dodge Jeep on Telegraph in Bloomfield Hills, is our dealer of choice. They have three Prowler techs and we have used them before. The GM at Golling is Joe Ellsasser. He belongs to POA also. I just called him and he said if you want, call them to set up an appointment. Joe also said they fixed his issue. I'm sure they probably can help.

The tech names are Brian, Gerard and Rudd. If you call, ask for Veronica and tell her you are with the Prowler club along with Joe. She will get you to one of the Prowler techs. Within the hour, Joe is going to let her know that you might be calling so she can help you. They are great people at Golling. Golling's number is 248.334.3600

erichThanks to everyone for your suggestions and help. I feel my best bet will be to go with Golling and let the true experts take a look. I'm up north right now with friends. Will at least touch base with Veronica to get the ball rolling. Thanks, CJ, for all the detailed info...

I Wish you the best of luck with your car.
One thing to keep in mind is that our cars are twenty years old this year.
Although they may have a prowler tech at that particular dealer.
They will still face the same problems many face on this web site locating parts . They don't stock prowler TPMS at the dealer.
You will come to value the experience and knowledge that many members here have and share. Dealers are expensive.
You can solve a lot of your problems by doing a search and reaching out to member with years of experience.

CAT-A-TONICI don't mean to be repetitive regarding this topic but if I'm reading this right as far as the tire sensors are concerned, is this another area that we as Prowler owners are once again on our own? Does Chrysler still have these available but are cost prohibitive or just not available period? If there is after market sensors available and are they calibrate-able with our cars system?

Has anybody cut the bottom off of one of the stock sensors and taken a peak inside? Possible battery replacement?

padrooIt's been a whole but there are many options for TPMS sensors in past post. I installed a 2002 module and installed Doreman Direct-Fit Sensors.

This only works if you upgrade to the 2002 module under the dash cover, 2 screws and a plug, easy swap.

This is the module part number for a 2002 module. #4815 227AD, I bought a used one and saved some money.

To my knowledge modules are not know to go bad, TPMS sensors have a battery inside and they go bad over time.

This upgrade will future proof your system because the sensors are still being made.

To answer your question about take (apart a sensor).
There is a video posted above.
Its not a prowler TPMS but it not a simple task.
As for the dealers I'm pretty sure they don't carry the sensors for our cars. For sure not any under the year 2001.
The Prowler store has the 2002 kit but they now want 600 dollar.
Aftermarket will soon be the only choice.
I just bought some orange mats brand new.
They are brand new in a bag . But like the tire sensors they were produced 2003.. they are new to me but they are 14 years old. The little rubber nubs on the back are not as strong as the day they were made . Even though they have been in a bag for 14 years they are deteriorating.
So apply that to tires.. People who think because they are never wet or never driven they are still good.
Yes they are nice to trailer the car to a show and then trailer home. But to feel safe driving on them. You can argue all day that they are still good .But they are simply not....But of course I have been wrong before....

Maybe Golling Chrysler Dodge Jeep has parts the rest of use don't have access to.

robinTo be honest I'm frustrated that erich is being directed to a another dealer. I'm not sure if you (erich) had to pay diagnostic fees. But to me they were bang on except for damaging your computer. Your TPMS is old any finished.
Same as your tires unless you just want a trailer queen.

But this site is all about the knowledge and past experience from owners like yourself.
I also understand it can be scary and confusing to post and have people you never met before tell you what to do or where to go.
I did mention the search feature erich so he or she can read up on this topic and educate yourself on the matter.
Going into any garage with some knowledge is never a bad thing. I just don't want you spending a lot of money at a dealer when you can get answers here.

erichI really do appreciate all the input, advice, care & concern shown by everyone and, I too, don't want to start a war. First off, I'm not mechanically inclined, and at this stage of my life that's not about to change, so must defer to someone who is. I had an order for the TPMS placed with local Mopar Parts Dept (Parkway Chrysler) & after searching the entire nation for over 8 mos finally located "1" in New York. I first took it to a Goodyear tire dealer who told me it had to be programmed and recommended Sterling Hts Dodge. At no cost to me, they took their diagnostic machine & checked each tire to see which was bad & all 4 showed bad. I was told that was pretty much impossible so I left, having nothing done. I did pay in excess of $150(not quite sure as I'm away from my records) & I don't even know if this is a new part or an old return just sitting on the shelf collecting dust somewhere in NY. So, looks like we're on our own on this part too.

Robin......not starting a war but......

I've been on this site since 2000 and other Prowler clubs before that. I ran the Plymouth Prowler Road show for Chrysler....my husband was on Team Prowler. That being said, I am not unfamiliar with Prowler. I was a used as a liaison between some of the Prowler Team members who read the site but was not allowed to post. So, they sent it to me and I posted for them. Do I know everything? No. However, we know a lot of people that can help. Bob has done a lot of that for owners.

This website is a wealth of information, but it is not just about knowledge and past experience. There is also the expertise of those who built this car.

Not everyone has the same issues and resolutions. It's great that everyone can talk about their experiences with their Prowlers and that certainly gives others options to look for answers.

I did not tell Erich where he HAD to go or what to do. He doesn't live that far from me. We have not met yet, but I wouldn't stay silent if we could help. There aren't as many Prowler Techs as there used to be. It is his choice as to what he wants to do and I won't be offended if he doesn't seek the Techs at Golling.
