Going to guess it cranked over fine, just not firing Well sounds like the dreaded bad fuel pump Common problem, starts fine cold, hard to start hot, but runs great once running Many have changed the fuel pump because of this. Tom Mills at Jefferson Auto Collision in Mishawaka, Indiana (listed vendor on main page) has a direct replacement fuel pump. He came up with the solution aft so many people were having issues and the factory replacement wasn't available and very expensive when it was available. I changed my pump at 22,000 miles and probably 10 years ago. At that time many were using a modified SRT 4 pump and wasn't a drop in unit. Tom has it covered with his and at a resemble price. If you are a new owner there are some other common problems that might be best to address before it happens. The window regulators break, Tom also made improved replacements that are far better then originals (also not available from Chrysler) One of our better vendors to deal with, he has owned 4 Prowlers and makes appearance products too His bumper removals light kit is on my car along with several other products. ------------------fvee25 Well I went to the gas station to fill
up the prowler for the first time.
New owner. It had a 1/4 tank. Filled it up.
Went to turn the key it would not start.
Next time pumped gas pedal and finally started.
What could have been the problem?????
Got home and it fired right up.garysss When you say it wouldn't start, do you mean it wouldn't do anything or it turned over without starting? WildCat ok you say wouldn't start
Larry & Sue Mayesed monahan If it starts fine and is hard to start when cold, it is most likely the fuel pump, as Wildcat stated. You can turn the key to ON but not all the way to the starting position, and wait 5 to 10 seconds so that the pressure builds up before turning the key all the way to start. That is just a temporary solution, of course. But it is a cheap fix. fvee25 It starts fine cold and hot. Also runs great.
I think it had something to do with the pressure of
the gas being pumped in. It may have caused something
with the fuel pressure. That's why I had to pump the pedal.fvee25 After reading a few threads I
decided to order the fuel pump kit.
Looks like an easy job to replace.
Thanks everyone for the help.
Good thing about the prowler.
It is easy to work on.phil2237 Pumping the gas pedal will do nothing. That only works on cars with carburetors, Fuel injection does not work the same way. Change the fuel pump is your best option. TucsonJer I had the very same issues but a new fuel pump from Tom fixed all my problems. Jer
