P1ProwlnMy wife is complaining about needing room in the car when we go places. She mainly wants it so she can have somewhere to put thing she buys. I think its a great excuse not to buy anything, LoL. No really I am leaning toward the weekender just for the practicality, but i am stuck on which one. Jim Suttons looks nice and the prowler products looks great also. I have never seen either in person. Just looking for some opinions. I will eventually get a prowler trailer. I just think using the trailer for a day trip would not be practical.

I love my trailer, but you are right about day trip, wish I had bought one of the original REAL ROD weekender. It would be great for daily use, heck never would remove it, and Bob made it so you could still pull the trailer. Would guess it overloaded the factory 100lbs tongue weight but not the 1,000 lbs total

Seen Jims at event last year, I think it looks better in person than in the pictures, didn't see it open so not sure about space. Good thing is he still had some for sale a few months back.

If you plan on getting a trailer the option to use both is a plus. Not sure if Jims can do both but think it can. A weekender is hard to come by, cannot remember the screen name but think it was Pantara made a copy of Real rods weekender but it was slightly larger, Plus, but he would not make the frame to pull the trailer. I would have bought one from him except for this reason.

My 2 cents, if a trailer comes available, BUY IT! Only about 1,350 trailers made.

VinceMI've had Panterra's version of the Weekender for a number of years now. It's a little larger than Realrod's. With the right duffel bag and smart packing we have traveled for more than a week with no problem. I can also get 3 coolers in it with adult brewed beverages for car shows. I also think the lines of the Weekender compliment the car. I had a trailer but sold it since I didn't have room to store it and never used it.

1st ProwlerI agree with everything that "Wildcat" (Larry Mays) says.....I happen to have one of Jim Suttons, "Transporters" which I keep always attached for the typical day trips & it not only works out great, but also the shape looks good with the car & I get a lot of compliments regarding the Transporter on the car....I also have a trailer that can be used with the Transporter at the same time, since it also comes with it's own trailer receiver , to attach the trailer to the Transporter, which really works out well for the long road trips.....Also if you decide to get one of Jim Suttons "Transporters" I would recommend getting the ((Large)))one, as the larger one looks best on the car & it obviously holds more.......JMO 1st Prowler

JeraneWI installed my PT Cruiser luggage rack on my trailer tongue and it work well.
mslc10I just did Prowler Products travel trunk and am pleased.Gary went out of his way to get it finished and shipped down to Texas for its end of May outting. this weekend i finished carpeting the inside...looks great!now i can carry cooler and duffle bag and some extras on top!!

CJJerane........ok...that's clever. I have one of the PT racks also. However, I can usually get everything I need in the trailer.
padrooThe decal on the trailer hitch says 100 lbs. tongue weight and 1,000 pounds pulling weight, you shouldn't ignore this.
I don't know where the week part of the trailer hitch is whether it is the attaching points or the box tubing for the receiver. It would have been nice to have a little more support in the middle of the hitch but the transmission cooler is in the way. That 100 pound weight limit is magnified many times over on rough roads.

On the other hand has anyone ever heard of a Prowler trailer hitch failing?

JUSTAKIDI have the weekender and love it the only issue I had was no way to take the trailer and the weekender so I made my own hitch receiver to go into the hitch . it basically is a double stack receiver that goes into the hitch , the weekender goes on top and the trailer on the lower so when I get to an event I can leave the trailer and still have the weekender

ed monahanThere were lots of trailer rack failures, early on. The welds didn't hold and later they were modified with an extra piece added, for stability and strength. The hitch didn't fail but the Prowler racks did. NOT the chrome PT Cruiser racks, the dark colored original racks.

JeraneWRegarding tongue weight; with the PT rack and trunk filled, I was still able to lift the tongue and attach it to the Prowler hitch. I think most of the balance was on the trailer wheel location. Keep in mind, I was just 82 the last time I hooked up that combination, but I think I could still do it.

The last time I went anywhere with her, I drove something with a larger trunk capacity.

Greg and VetaIf I were to buy one I would buy Jim Sutton's large transporter. Looks great carrying over the lines of the car, and you can still pull a trailer with it. Followed Jim to an event in NC few years back when he pulled his trailer and had his transporter on. No problems. If you come down to FL he might even install it for you.

ed monahanI don't think they are still in production so you will have to watch for a used one here on POA. They don't come up very often.
P1ProwlnAfter a lot of deliberation and reading everyone's opinion I have decided to go with Jims transporter. I still intend on getting a trailer, but I think I need the transporter for day trips first. Thanks for all the replies it makes the decision much easier.
