mslc10Has anyone tried focal speakers? Was going to do another set of infinity ( 62.11) but the reviews for focal look good.one of my current infinity sis popping and it's less than a year old. Not real impressed with bass from infinity..... Thoughts?

WeezyI installed 6 or 6.5" Focal's in the doors and 3.5" Kappa's in the headrest area. While it all sounds a bazillion times better than the shredded factory speakers I had before, I wish I could say I was impressed. I'm really not, but I don't know if it's because the head unit isn't so great or if it is the speakers. I even had that sound deadening installed, I believe it's called Dyno-Mat. Somewhat disappointed, but not the end of the world

Just my $.02
Weez

DrillinUlooking to replace headrest speakers this coming week.

looking for some info on these speakers

mslc10I did two way infinity but had to modify both speaker and box. I don't recommend them for that reason. There is another brand that drops in . May have to do search.
Actually here is pumpkins page: http://www.zianet.com/SLlover/page60a24.html
mslc10Just ordered Hertz hcx65
http://www.hertzaudiovideo.com/hcx-165/

Will give them a shot....

WulffBought the same last year but never got the chance to finish the install before the snow hit.
They came highly recommended so we'll see in the next month or so.

skb4076I used JBL GTO328's in the rear and Infinity 32.9's in the Front. I wanted to use the Infinities in both the front and rear, but after searching for over 2 weeks I could only find one pair of the Infinity 32.9's.

JBL and Infinity are actually the same company and when I compared the Infinity 32.9's and the JBL GTO328, it is obvious they are made by the same company. The difference is that the JBL GTO328 do not have the built in crossovers. However, they are 2 ohm speakers, which is was important to me because the factory Infinity steroe is a 2 ohm system. Almost everything else out there in a 3.5" speacker is a 4ohm.

Like with most speakers, you will have to do a little bit of grinding or carving of the recessed speaker cavity to make them fit.

well not too impressed .they are 4 ohm so im losing some efficiency.. i have only done one side to compare and the infinity is louder and bassier. i will put the infinity back in and see if i can stop it from popping (original reason for finding something different)

A2HYou are correct. Pretty much anything you install instead of the factory speakers will sound much better. However as you mention, it won't be impressive. The problem is not necessary the brand/quality of the speakers (Infinity / Focals / JBL / etc) but the size of them. Because of the space limitations and the fact that the headrest 3.5s are used as 'mids' you just don't get the punch from a speaker that size. Similar situation with the sub, it is quite small (this was somehow improved by using a quite clever enclosure).

The only option if you want to get truly better sound is to change the location of the speakers from the top of the back board to the front - basically having the speakers behind the seats) but that requires modifying / cutting the back board.

If you want to keep the back speakers in its original place, of course using a better speaker helps a bit. Focals and JLs are very good.

mslc10Found a portion of my issue.....the adapter ring was pushing the speaker too close to the door panel, and when the cone went to full excursion it would hit the door panel and cause the " plopping". I remove the adapter ring ,made a gasket to seal between speaker and " dynamatted" door ,and secured speaker straight to door . Works much better!! At some point I may put the hertz speakers in.

The link doesn't work when I checked.
Did you get the Hertz coax or system speakers?
(The names are close)

If your speakers sound bad it's because your exhaust isn't loud enough.

From what I've read here, and what the speaker guy at the store told me, you need to buy speakers with a crossover to match the others or they sound like crap.
This is what he sold me.
(I'm no expert)

padrooIt's cheaper on eBay.
WulffFor the 6.5 did you have to use an adapter?
The Infinity's are around 7 inches for the mounting screws.
