dean1948Has anyone experienced a tremendously increase on their Prowler insurance that is insured by Grundy...I ask my agent last April that has my other cars insured, to get me someone that would insure my Prowler as a collectors car..I told him to insure it for $35,000...He call me to say he got it for $256.00 per year with Grundy... Yesterday,I got the bill to renew it for another year and a letter attached. The letter stated that they could not insure the car again for the same amount but could insure it for $515.00 per year. That's more than doubled...
Does anyone know of another insurance company that would insure a Prowler as a collectors car with a better rate?

I pay $535 per year, $35,000 value. My ins. Rates were steady for years and last year my rates went up 20%. I was not happy so I went pricing with other ins co and found out my ins co was still the cheapest. So in short they have all gone up, maybe same deal in your neck of the woods.

georgieboyI have Grundy insurance on my Prowler. It is insured for $25,000. Thats how much I paid for it. Last year was my first year and the premium was $400. I just received my renewal and it is still $400. Your driven mileage can affect the premium. My mileage estimate to them is 2500 miles annually. They charge you for usage.
SILVRKATThey said they could not insure my 2000 Prowler because my main use or daily use vehicle was not new enough?? I have a 2003 Cad Escalade with 36,000 miles on it and it is in perfect condition, why should I go out and buy a new one for $75K ???I don't drive it more than 2 to 3K a year now.
I went through my regular Progressive Ins. for full value $25K with my Cad. no problems.
But I'm sure someone will say look out for them they will screw you if you wreck it or total it.

They specialize in collector car insurance - they're the co that underwrites Barrett Jackson brand car insurance, which some Prowwler owners use.
I just switched to them from Grundy, only becauae I bought another car and Grundy wouldn't insure the new car.

DrillinUI have Grundy now. About 3 months ego I wanted to get lower insurance so I called Hagerty for a quote, they quoted me over $1,000 (2 years ego they quoted me about $540)
So I stayed with Grundy and they only went up $40 from last year.

Insurance are by area, type of car and driver.

enzvoyI have my Vette insured thru these guys http://www.americancollectors.com/

JUSTAKIDI have grundy with a apprrasialed value of 30,000.00,,, 515 a year 0 deduct
daytonprowlerBarrett Jackson Collector Car Insurance.
GortI pay $37 a month for a flat damage rate of $40k.$500 deductible. Mileage not to exceed 3000 miles per year,if you see you are going over the 3000 you can buy more insurance to cover the mileage.State Farm. I think that's pretty fair , it wouldn't take much to total a Prowler and they couldn't find parts anyway.(frame,body,etc.)
Need4SpeedDepends on Carrier,

if they had loss in your area for that type of car, your rates will increase.

can't compare across states.

Shop around try all of them.

Grundy is the only Insurance carrier that does not have milage restrictions, so keep that in mind if you are a driver on your KAT.

padrooI carry just a standard automotive policy on my Prowler with $1,000 deductible. I keep full coverage on it while I am driving it and when I quit I drop everything else except for fire and theft and I just checked, it cost me $219 last year. I do this with all my vehicles. I have about 5 that could be driven but I only have full coverage on the one I am driving. When I need my truck I will put full coverage back on it or any of the others as needed. I don't pay for all the bells and whistles if I don't need it.
1st ProwlerGreat idea until someone totals out your prowler then I would guess they will only maybe give you half of what you paid for it .......best be clear if your insurance is co is covering "actual" cash value........cause mine wouldn't

Exactly. Mine pays $40k for total loss in writing.

I don't worry about a few thousand dollars. You end up paying it in insurance premiums anyway over time. It's like buying a warranty, the one who makes out is the person selling the warranty. If you have a late model SUV, what kind of insurance do you have on it? It doesn't qualify as a collector car or antique so you have regular insurance on it. Ask your regular insurance company what they would pay with a total loss of your Prowler and make an informed decision.

golfboyI have State Farm insurance and have my Kat fully covered with collision($250.00 deductible), comprehensive, medical payments, uninsured motorist, and no fault which is required in Florida. The yearly premium is $750.00 with no mileage restriction. I drive my Kat almost every day and log about 6000 miles a year. I think my coverage is very fair and I have no problem with it. I don't like being restricted in any way when it comes to the use of my vehicle. That's just me. LOL.
padrooOur weather up North makes the decision a lot easier to put our cars in storage for the Winter. It doesn't cost much for 6 months of fire and theft.

BUT..what will the normal ins. pay if it's totaled? My agent said a 2001 would be about $24k, that's a long way from $40k. Do you drive more than 3000k miles per year? Most of us don't ,I would guess. If you do you, can dial in any mileage you desire for a fixed amount. You are in no way restricted. Why lose money? The normal ins. is for the avg. miles per year 10-13k miles per year. My Prowler is 14 years old with 16k miles.

quincyYour rates may have increased due to hitting a magic age number. The older we get the more insurance costs, even if you have a perfect claim history.
padrooMy Prowler sits in my garage for 6 months out of the year, not much chance of it getting totaled in there. Down South it may be a different story because you can actually use it most of the time.
golfboyGort, I didn't pay $40,000 for my Kat. Just $25,000. So if it gets totaled I'll be happy with a $24,000 pay off. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying driving it as much as I can here in Florida, and that's every day, not just six months out of the year.

I've got $36k in it. If I don't get killed in the wreck I guess I made $4k. With my luck,I'd get my neck broke and the prowler got half ass repaired after sitting in a shop for a year..grin
