| alrtg | I just picked up a new Belt Tension Gauge for my Serpentine Belts. It is a Draf Industries # 371 which is essentially the same as an OTC brand. Many of you know that belt tension is important on our cars. Improperly tensioned belts have been reported to fail within a few miles of their installation, sometimes resulting in damage. For me, this is inexpensive insurance. Anyone that attends the annual East Coast Posse Maintenance Session who wishes to utilize this tool will have access to it. Just bring new belts with you.

| jimsutton | That is a nice one . The one I have is not so fancy but works .. The Prowler has 2 adjusters one on each side of motor Don't use a impact on the AC adjusting bolt it can crack the pulley housing base I have seen this best to use hand tool when adjusting them .. |

Even though I have known some people that use the "Tighten it until it wrings off, then back off half a turn method", I am not a subscriber to it myself. Typically I am not a big user of impact tools unless removing lug nuts or bolts larger than 1/2"x20 thread. When reinstalling, I always start by hand. If I use an automated device, it is only to get the nut/bolt close then I tighten by hand and finish with a torque wrench if the situation calls for it. |

Those numbers are correct for new belts but used belts are both set to 120 lbs. |
| catfish | if belts are not set to correct tension,it will throw a belt causing a real mess,taking out other belts .last time i had mine changed i let them use my gauges and assumed they used them,which they didnt.second time i drove the car,it threw a belt which took out the other belts.they replaced all belts again at there cost and also paid the tow bill.bunch of idiots.i guess they think some car owners know nothing about cars. ------------------
