RPL	What does this have to do with Prowler? Read the fourth paragraph and understand where some of the knowledge that went into the the aluminum F-series truck may have come from. "The 2017 Jeep Wrangler may leave its historic steel body-on-frame construction and Toledo plant behind, according to Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, as quoted by Automotive News’ Larry Vellequette. The current Wrangler has good mileage for rugged four wheel drive vehicles, but poor economy overall, at around 17/21 mpg (depending on model and transmission). Mr. Marchionne said the Wrangler will need to lose weight and might need an aluminum unibody setup; previously, he had implied that Wrangler would be Chrysler’s first car to make extensive use of aluminum since the Plymouth Prowler, whose team was largely hired by Ford. The 3.6 liter V6 would likely be swapped out for either a Hurricane 2.0 turbo and/or the smaller 3.2 V6. Many believe a diesel will be optional. Mr. Marchionne said that the Toledo South plant could not handle an aluminum body, but that any solution would not affect local employment. This means that a new plant might be built, or that the plant could also be repurposed (or closed) and the Wrangler moved to Toledo North, Sterling Heights, or Belvidere, though this would mean that the aluminum-bodied Wrangler would be made with steel-bodied cars, which seems unlikely. The current Wrangler plant was created under Daimler and is enclosed by a “supplier park,” making expansion difficult at best and reducing flexibility. There has also been considerable talk of using an independent suspension. While there has been an innovative long-travel independent-suspension Wrangler prototype, one suspension engineer said he suspected the company would adopt a version of the Ram 4×4’s setup instead. Mr. Vellequette pointed out that a unibody setup would “effectively be a modern-day version of the popular Cherokee XJ,” and pointed out that the massive changes could be too much for dedicated Jeepers."
padroo	Thanks Bob, the big difference I see is the 2015 F-150 uses a steel frame and the Jeep will use a unibody which also makes it different from the Prowler. http://www.ford.com/trucks/f150/2015/
mslc10	Just my 2 cents.. The o7 wrangler had ok power until you throw some 32" tires and then it sucks on the highway .i traveled from Tampa to Orlando on interstate 4 and I was in the way & everyone's bitch. We were going to bass pro shop and Toyota was there& they were doing tundra test drives! The jeep was sold in no time! I don't know about the newer motor up another 25 horses?? The Cherokee was a badass with the 4.o but I don't think the wrangler will go to unibody or they will have all sorts of problems with their hardtop panels that alread creaked with a full frame. CJ	I also had a 2007 Jeep Unlimited (4 door). I've always loved my Jeeps and the 07 was good but it couldn't get out of it's own way! I traded it in this summer on a new 2014 Unlimited and what a difference with the new engine!!! Drives better, rides better, lots of great new features and zips right on down the road. No longer worried about pulling out into traffic!!

But the main topic is about MPG. 2014 Unlimited is rated and even less MPG at 16/21. My Viper gets 8 mpg, until I start it. - LOL

There wasn't much in the way of new technology in the Eagle but a redesigned Jeep that is better than anything before it will win the contest hands down. It needs the accolades of top reviews or even SUV of the year and it will sell.
CJ	BillyC.......my post was a response to the comment by mslc10 "I don't know about the newer motor up another 25 horses". I'm not sure about the increased mileage, but it is a better running engine. What you get in mpg is determined by more than just the engine. Driving habits and driving the speed limits can affect the mpg. I always got better mpg with RPL's Durango than he did. I got more out of it. Frankly, a Jeep Wrangler or Unlimited aren't the best vehicles for mpg on highways.....but then they weren't meant to be. I've always had Jeeps, mainly for 4 wheeling. I still have my 1983 Jeep CJ7 Limited. Oh...and I forgot..I always get better mileage than what the mfg. rates it. This message has been edited by CJ on 10-03-2014 at 06:26 PM
mslc10	I think very few people are buying the jeep for mileage. If they were,they wouldn't be jacking them up and putting big tires on. The only reason mfg is looking to increase mpg is not for the consumer but for our govt CAFE standards. As noted in my post I was speaking just of performance and it was just an opinion that I was adding to the post. Also stated I sold jeep for tundra.......so I wasn't interested in mpg. Lol!

Ronald Heintschel	Bob I believe their are two old buildings next to the Wrangler plant in Toledo. The Med Corp build which is vacant. The Textile Leather Factory and it has been torn down The city of Toledo is looking into doing something with the two pieces of land to keep the Wrangler in Toledo. Stories on the local news
