| 69Cat | Looking for any tips or ideas that others have done to cleanup and touch-up the engine and engine compartment. The previous owner never took anytime to keep it looking good and it shows. I want to clean it up the best I can. The engine block has some light oxidation it looks like and not sure how to get at it. Any kind of engine cleaner spray on or by brush? Some of the black brackets have a few peeling bubbles with a few rust spots. Nuts and bolts have some rust as well. Not really any oil or leaks that I see. |

Local Detailers here do it but they charge like $250 or so to do it.
I haven't seen up close there work, just on Facebook.

| silverkat | I've detailed many engine compartments. First off don't use wax or compound or anything like that. If it's not too bad I use a moto toll with wire brush to clean all signs of rust on bolts, nuts and small to medium pieces showing rust. You'd be amazed how they clean up. Apply black matching paint with an artists brush and they'll look new. Again if not too bad, which seems to describe your compartment, clean section by section with a degreaser on a rag. Clean all hoses and coat them with Armor All and those will look new. Patiently wiping down all metal surfaces section at a time followed by Armor All and you can buff by hand to a real shine. Unless your engine compartment is a real mess I'd stay away from those foaming degreasers and all that water needed to rinse them off. So armed with just a few items and alot of elbow grease you can make it look new again. Don't try to do it all in one day. I find section by section you don't get sick of it and do a better job. It's alot easier on your back as well. |

| beachcat | We use a Tornador in our shop. A fantastic device that eliminates just about every other detailing tool out there. It works on a tornado principle and cleans with minimal moisture. Really a fantastic, air operated tool that is becoming very popular. I highly recommend them. Here is one of many youtubes on them:

| derosaj | Two products needed. Gumout foam cleaner and No Touch tire cleaner. Power wash engine compartment with Gumout. Let engine cool,this is very important,do not continue until engine is at normal outside temperature. Spray complete engine compartment with the No Touch and go to bed. The next morning you will think you spent all day cleaning. I'll bet you have a happy face and clean hands. |
