| Gort | My garage must have 30 bottles of different types of wax,cleaner,polish. Yesterday I found something that actually works well. This product is $13 a tube. I tryed it out on the swirls in the paint and in just a few minutes they were GONE ! I was shocked to see that it really worked. It comes in a orange tube. New finish Scratch remover. It says it removes swirls in the paint and it does. Great deal. I think autozone,Orielys,Advance auto and NAPA all carry this product..Try it.

3 reviewers. All I know is that my prowler has ZERO swirl marks for the first time since I've owned it.It looks like it has just been painted.The body shop said the only thing that would remove those swirls would be a polisher and TALC powder. They wanted $150 to do it. A friend who shows streetrods said to buy this stuff. It worked for me. If you're expecting it to remove deep scratches you might be disappointed. | bjprowler | Glad you found something that works for you...Swirls (or spider webs as I call them) really screw up the looks of a cars finish. It seems that it is most noticeable on darker colors.  Years ago I used Turtle Wax on my purple and the "spider webs" were terrible....especially at night. I switched to Mequiars HI-TECH yellow wax 26 and the swirls/spider webs disappeared.

| xtreme prowler | 3M Imperial Hand Glaze is what I use.... works great but requires some elbow grease... I don't use a buffer, all done by hand... |

Haven't tried that yet. I usually use Mequiars products. When I bought the prowler it had swirl marks everywhere, I'm just glad they're gone. Like I said before I have no idea about removing scratches, I have my doubts.

| catfish | the only way to remove swirls permanently is to rebuff w/a clean pad.many of the products that are out there are coverups after a short time they are back.swirl marks are caused by a dirty buffing pad and buffing to fast.if you have never buffed a car before,i wouldnt,its very easy to damage paint w/a buffer. ------------------

| catfish | the best compound out there is - production car care products-synthetic cutting cream-cuts better than just about everything out there and ive used them all,and removes less paint/clear than the others.and is less abrasive.car makers use a minimal amount of clearcoat,so its easy to burn a edge.do not use the old rubbing compound,which has been the same for the last 60 years,way to abrasive. ------------------

| Mr.Mcgoo | Mequires 105 and 205 work great though usually won't find them in your local store, the best process is to clay bar first, then use the cutting compound to remove the swirls and any other minor paint problems. Than comes the polish and the wow factor! There is always the last step of a coat of a good wax which is to protect, your shine and depth should be there already from the polish. This is best with the orbital polisher (DA). Most over the counter stuff that are all in one are not fixing the problem. The less you touch the paint is the best, everytime you use a quick detailer to take that dirt layer off you have scratched the clear coat. Go on you tube there are many interesting videos, there is a marine from KY who goes by Junkman and is on a lot of car sites and detailing sites, a good starting point. | padroo | I have watched all the Junkman videos and have bought most of the stuff he recommends but haven't tried them out yet. He not only shows you how to do things, he explains why. I have a car that I drive to work that needs to be cleaned up and the environment it goes through every day is the worst imaginable. I hope to use the Junkman's techniques to clean it up. I will not begin on the Prowler. |
| catfish | the junkman has detailed hundreds if not thousands of cars.it takes experience to do it correctly.the videos are kind of worthless to somebody who has never had a buffer in there hand. ------------------

| itsminenothers | For what it is worth and to share, I bought my 2001 Orange last year and it was pretty heavy with swirl marks. I did some research off various web sites and ended up using Meguiar's 105 then 205, followed by Menzerna Micro Polish, with a (Harbor Freight) Dual Action Polisher. All of these in conjunction did a great job of getting rid of the swirl marks/spider webs.
After all this work, to protect the Clear Coat, I followed the work above with several coats of a Polymer Seal (I used Klasse Sealant Glaze but heard good things about Zaino) and to protect the Klasse, I then went over the car with a Pinnacle Carnuba wax. My thought/logic tells me as long as I keep the wax up to date, I shouldn't ever have to polish/seal the car again, or at least that is my plan  A website that seemed pretty informative for a novice (myself) was Detailedimage.com (Detailing Guide and Ask a Pro blog Tabs at the top). Have you tried Scratch X or Swirl X? I don't know. I've bought so many car products over the years, I could have. I have several cars. If I'm not impressed with the outcome of a product it usually just sets of the shelf and finally gets thrown out. The Nu Finish seems to work for swirls. I've tried about everything you can think of as far as polish/wax/cleaners. My favorite polish is " beats-um-all".
I worked in a nuclear plant in Oak Ridge Tn. for almost 40 years. This is a product made by some of our mad scientists! It's a locally made.

| idive | Yes I've tried scratch x and swirl x. I haven't used scratch x to any major extent, just tried it out on a particular scrath I had and the little effort I put into it seemed to do fairly well on concealing it. It's still there but alot less noticeable, and like I said, I didn't put much into it that one time. I also used swirl X. It replaced the step 1 paint cleaner. It was a little thicker than the paint cleaner but did a pretty good job on the car. I gave it a full detail before the recent Texas event in May. I was happy with how it performed. I thought maybe you had tried one or both of them since you said you usually used Meguair's products, and I was wondering how this other stuff compared to it. Thanks for your reply. Hey Ondone, I spent multiple weekends/evenings working on mine (someone not knowing what they are doing) and several iterations thinking I had them (spiderwebs/scratches) all polished out, to then pull the car out in the sun and see some lighter scratches that needed more work. It took me probably 2-3 weekends working on it (along with family stuff). The polishing was definitely the longest. The Klasse and Wax need to cure between coats (24'ish hours) but you can get those laid down pretty quick and pretty quick to remove after haze (not a lot of car to cover). As to what it would cost to have a detail shop polish the paint, no idea, I thought about looking into it but didn't. Also I'll share, I probably spent enough in product (Polish, Wax, Sealer, Polisher, general car care products) to have someone else do it This message has been edited by itsminenothers on 07-02-2013 at 07:26 AM |
| TFischer | I use 3M Perfect It II first which takes all of the crud out of the paint then Maguires or Mothers. Love Perfect It!
