What he said. I haven't done it on the Prowler yet, but I replaced the run-flats on the front of my Corvette with the regular Goodyears and there is a world of difference in the ride. Congrats on the car! I replaced my Run Flat's last year with new Goodyear EMT Run Flats (That were two year old inventory at the time) and the difference was like night and day. I for one am more comfortable having the Run Flat tires on the car and am willing to live with the "rougher" ride since I does not bother me. Many here absolutely love the non run flat tires and I won't argue that they provide a smoother ride. My Dad has the Wonder Bar on his Black Tie and says he immediately noticed the difference. He loves it. I still have the stock set up. By the way.....WELCOME to the Forum and enjoy the car. This message has been edited by alrtg on 09-22-2011 at 08:05 PM One more thing that I've been looking at is one of those upper suspension braces. I see one for sale by MTD at the Prowler Store. Does anyone know how well they work? Anyway...Welcome! skelsdad Just purchased a 2001 Prowler with 5k miles from Texas and had it shipped up to NH. It is AWESOME! It came without bumpers, has a rear belly pan, Borla exhaust, air patrol, chrome gauage trim, chrome grill inserts and slight custom two-tone paint (charcoal gray in a black tie inspired design). I love this car but the ride is soooo hard. I would like to work on changing the ride this winter and was thinking of a "wonder bar" and getting rid of the "run flats". I know that there has been a lot of previous discussion on this issue but I want to add only proven results. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have the long NH winter to work on my ride issue. Love the site! WINDY CITY PROWLER Get rid of the run flats to start Continental makes a great smooth riding tire and see how the ride is. They should be 28 lbs. all around. This should be checked every month and regulated. Do it cold( in the morning). I have found a number of tires way over inflated over the years. Past that there are a number of other things that contribute to the rough ride. You do need to just drive the car and get used to it for a while. They DO ride somewhat rough. If you want more understanding of this call me at 650-967-3609 and leave a message and I'll call you back on my nickle and explain these to you. I hop[e this all helps, Obi-Wan JRL As was said.
If you get rid of the runflats and set your tire pressures at 29-29... the difference is AMAZINGed monahan I own a 2001 and a 2002. The 02 has runflats, the 01 does not YET. Unbelievable. I am shocked everytime I get in the 01. I forget how much rougher it rides and handles. Hawaiian I found that the more I drove it the less noticeable the rough ride was. The first day I had the car it felt like I was riding a Harley rigid.(that was a 1999 with a wonder bar but now my Mulholland rides a bit smoother.) alrtg Yes it rides like a sports car, not a luxury car and that is just fine with me. idive I've seen your car and its a nice one for sure. Welcome to the POA. DonSchroeder Yes, I agree with all of the above, I have a 99 with a Wonder Bar and Dunlops. JeraneW I think all has been said. Purchased my '01 new and as Andria has said, I installed the wonder bar which makes a big difference. I still run on my original run flats and love the "feel" of the road. At my age, I am too numb to notice the difference. skelsdad Thanks for all of the replies. It looks like I will tackle the rough ride in two stages..first the wonder bar (then test the ride)..then new tires if necessary. I truly appreciate all of the input and I am sure that the terrible New England roads have a lot to do with my ride issues. Greg and Veta I installed a wonder bar first and noticed a little improvement in the front, but the rear was still hard as a rock. After that I switched to non-runflats and that was a night and day difference.
If I had to do it again I would just skip the wonder bar and go directly to new non-runflats.beachcat I get a good ride on my OEMs. I dont know what you guys are complaining about. UK ProwlerFan Had a wonderbar on my 2001 when I bought it, so nothing to compare it with, though the previous owner said it makes a big difference. I can tell you that ditching the run-flats makes a huge difference. My wife hadn't been in the Prowler for months, but even she commented on how comfortable it was on ordinary tyres. I run 30psi all round without problems. Just carry a small compressor and puncture repair kit with you... Good luck. Mike
