I agree with you ,but some cars shouldn't be on the road Most failures are for gas cap pressure leaks. I put on a new one that I keep boxed,,,right before every test. I would have told them "yes." ------------------ They need to move a little further forward and test the horse for emissions. Sorry to vent, but this is one reason why I don't like the way California does there smog checks through independent smog only shops. You are dependent on the tech on how he does his job. Yes he was the owner... This message has been edited by Jim C on 09-08-2011 at 12:44 AM ------------------ Sorry Roman, I just saw your post. So far I have had the car 8 years and have never had it tested, First they would give me a free pass because it was too low to go over the treadmill but now the treadmill is gone so I am supposed to have it done. I guess eventually I will have to get it done but it's been fun avoiding it. lionberger They quit emission testing here in Michigan about ten to fifteen years ago. What a waste of time and money. BeWare I don't need to get the Kat emission tested this year because I am over 65 plus the car is more than 10 years old and plus I drove it less than 5000 miles last year. So I get an exemption. enzvoy quote:

WINDY CITY PROWLER Emission testing ever year here in Illinois. ed monahan Ohio finally gave up about 8 years ago. One year they asked me if the Prowler was front wheel drive, while looking at it. Scary. lionberger quote:

Scary.catfish i believe its every 2 yrs here in az at 25.00 to 30.00,all they do on newer cars is use a computer to ck for codes,if none you pass. Dave Mills I get an exemption here in PA for mileage, but they still test here. PA is so far behind, they test Amish buggies. alrtg quote:

Just had both '99 cars I own done - others are exempt by age or classification. I hated the treadmill test ... Jim C It's every 2 years in California. Mine failed the first time because the OB2 would not read. Long story, but all the smog tech had to do was spray the contacts with a can of air on the OB2 Connector.
Which by the way after I had this done somewhere else by a mechanic friend. When I got back to the Smog shop I literally seen the same smog tech (the owner)do to a car right in front of my eyes! A little effort on his part to clean the connector would have prevented my frustration and his business. It got nasty so I won't go on.
Yes I reported him to BBB.catfish all the smog stations in the phx.area are run by the state.my truck being very old will now be exempt.wouldnt pass last yr.because of shot converter, had to buy a new one. DR PROWLER We have emission tests every 2 years in ontario...since its inception years ago...it definitely got rid of all the junk that shouldn't be roadworthy in the first place.. DIXIE Cat FL did away with emissions testing in 2000. JeraneW Age does have some advantages. Purchased my Kat new and never had to go through MD emissions. It is a good thing as I live in SC and Kat is tagged in MD. It would be a long trip to go back for an inspection. Yes, I still keep a MD address. idive We have it here. They told the public and inspection stations it was required as a matter of health and safety. So all the stations went out and spent alot of money on the equipment. Then the state decided it was not going to do anything and was not needed. Then the stations complained that they already spent money on the equipment that they now won't be using. So the state reinstituted the useless program purely so the stations could make money on it. padroo Indiana it's every two years and I will have it done soon. Ours are state run and doesn't cost you anything (tax dollars). Only a few counties have to do it since we are in NW Indian we get all the prevailing winds from Chicago and we are a steel producing region, need I say more. Since we live on the Southern shore of Lake Michigan all traffic, train, cars and trucks have to go through our area to clear the tip of Lake Michigan. The only major East West road South of our area is I-70 and that is down in Indianapolis so we get everyones pollution. People I work with don't have to have their cars checked and live in other counties drive more in my county than I do every day and don't have to have their cars inspected. What a waste of taxpayers money. beachcat In Ontario it just changed to first testing when the vehicle is 7 years old. We were every 2 years for the longest time.I assume they based this on the number of fails they were getting which was not many. Todays engines don't let us pollute unless we want to drive with our check engine lights on.
